My boyfriend and I went to San Diego so I can meet his parents and friends from growing up. We had been talking about marriage for a couple months and right before Christmas he had taken me to a jeweler to get my finger sized but he refused to look at rings, saying he already had something in mind. So I've been dying to know what on earth he had been looking at and I've kind of been a little annoying about it (not proud of it, but true and it comes into play a little later) He promised he would show me before buying anything though.
On the last day we were in California he turned to his friend that we had been staying with and said, "You know, every time I'm here I go to the beach, even if it's just to hear the sound of the waves and smell the ocean, and we haven't gone yet. Do you want to drive with us there?" His friend agreed, and we went to the beach. His friend had to use the restrooms when we got there, so we walked out onto the beach by ourselves.
As we're walking, Mike, my boyfriend, looks down and says, "What's that?" and he bent down and held a ring out to me. I took one look at the ring, one look at him, and said "I hate you." He laughed at me and said, "Well, I love you and I want to marry you. Will you?" and slipped the ring on my finger as I nodded.
So, now I have this beautiful ring on my finger (that he was 100% right about me loving, even if he bought it before showing it to me. In case you haven't figured out, that's why the first thing I said was "I hate you" and why I was completely surprised), a smile permanently on my face, and the most wonderful man I can call my fiance and someday call my husband
