As told by the Future Mrs. Fincher:
It was a typical week in July. As usual, we had 1000 things going on. On Thursday afternoon, I got an email from Brenda saying that she had scored locker room passes to the Mariners for Friday and she asked if she could take J to the game. I said it was fine with me, that way Tyrell and I could pack (we were supposed to be moving the following weekend). I sent Tyrell an email saying we would have time pack and maybe even see a movie, his favorite thing to do. He called me a few hours later saying that we should have date night. I protested saying that we had so much to do, but he insisted. Then he said that he would have to pick me up right from work that next day at my office in Issaquah. This made no sense to me and I asked if I could meet him at my house in Seattle. He said no that our date would not be in that direction. Then he said that he was just going to tell me where we were going. I said no, I wanted to be surprised.
Friday morning came and of course I woke up late. I rushed to find something to decent to wear, barely making it out the door in time. I told my co-workers about my surprise date and they insisted today would be the day. I told them there is NO way that he has even started ring shopping and it just seemed too obvious. The day was fairly busy and went by quickly. At 3pm, Tyrell showed up and I brought him back to meet some of my co-workers. He was in a super good mood, but he is usually pretty happy when he is around me. We left my office and he asked if I wanted to stop for water because we had a drive ahead of us. I said no and we were on our way heading East on I-90.
We drove over the Columbia and he took the Gorge exit. I asked if we were going to a concert at the Gorge, but we drove past towards Quincy. We turned off into the Cave B Inn. I had told him six months ago that I had wanted to go here some day. He said that we were just having dinner, but maybe we should check out a room. He asked if I wanted to go inside and I told him that I would wait in the car. He came out with a room key and we were on our way. We pulled up to Cliff house number 4 and went inside.
The cliff house was amazing. I started to wonder what all this was about, but still sure this was not the big night. We went out on the patio where there was a bottle of chilled wine and two wine glasses. I was taking in the view and he asked me if I wanted some wine. Oh course I wanted wine and wanted to know what he had up his sleeve! He picked up the bottle and called me over to read the back. The sentence began with "A little over ten years ago in a parking lot in West Seattle..." and the first thing I thought was: "This winery started in a parking lot?" I read on and realized that the story on the bottle was about us and the path that had lead us to where we are today. Once I realized what it was a skimmed the rest to get to the end, which said "now I just have one thing to ask you..." I shrieked and that is when he got down one one knee. I said yes to a giant diamond and quickly followed that with, "Put it on, Put it on!" Little did I know he had captured the whole thing on video. I was so impressed with all the thought and effort he had put into making this such an amazing moment for me and for us.
I cannot be more excited to be spending the rest of my life with my best friend!
