Engagement Party Gifts

Hello, I'm hoping some of you can help!  I've been married for 3 years, never had an engagement party and never have been to one.  We are going to one next weekend and I'm not sure what kind of gift to take.  Have you ladies had one?  What were some of your favorite engagment gifts?

Thanks!

Re: Engagement Party Gifts

  • We got one of those large picture frames that people can sign.  We will put a picture of us in it and have it at the wedding.  Also got a set of 8 champagne flutes and two champagne flutes for us that we will toast with at the wedding.

  • Bottles of wine are always popular... wedding photo frames, gift certificates for dinners out, basic small gifts to congratulate the couple.  There's not really a "rule".

Did they register?  If not, I'd with what PP said or you could do a gift card to a store that carries home-type items, etc.  Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target...you get the idea.
  • The nicest gift my FI and I got at our recent engagement party was a pair of waterford crystal champagne flutes.  We got several nice picture frames but you can only have so many of those and others are guaranteed to give those so I'd skip that option, we got a bunch of wedding planning related things since the guests all knew we were at least a year away and we've put many of those to use already, our friends our age contributed nice bottles of champagne and other booze :-).  A few guests who were more creative knew we love Vegas and would be getting married there and ended up buying us Vegas or gambling-themed gifts.  You could probably ask the parents who are throwing it what they think would be a good gift, they'll generally know what the couple might like or be able to use.
