Just Engaged and Proposals

Time Line

Hi!  I just got engaged at the start of the month and we aren't planning on a wedding until June 2012.  I'm super excited and want to start looking at dresses, venues etc but some people are telling me it's too early to start- that I will change my mind, style etc in 2 years and my body might even change.  They are making me feel crazy to want to do all this stuff!  What IS too early and what is a good time??

Re: Time Line

  • I wouldn't say it's necessarily too early to be getting an idea of what you want but there definitely is the possibilty that you could change your mind on certain things. Buying the dress or picking a bridal party is totally a no-no! However, venues in certain cases may not be (Some really popular ones can book WAY in advance).  I can't blame you for wanted to start looking around, I did the same thing when I got engaged. But two years is a long time though so I wouldn't recommend making any final decisions for at least another year!\

    Congrats by the way!

  • Ditto to the PP.  Welcome and Congrats!
  • A year before the wedding is good time to start
  • Check out venues and church....some venues if they are in high demand fill up....at least you will have that down and you can wait until you get closer to get the dress, bp, etc

It's never too early to start, especially getting ideas. A good friend of mine is getting married in August 2011 and she's completely done planning her wedding aside from minor things a year out (she got engaged 2+ years before the wedding). Her FI and her will most likely be relocating after her FI graduates from college because he's going to be entering the military (upon graduation will have been in ROTC for 4 years) so they didn't want to have to be trying to plan a wedding while moving/finding a place to live.
