My fiance and I are celebrating 2 years together this Friday, and I have to admit that it's been the best two years of my life.
To understand the proposal, you have to understand us. Both of us are veterans-- Him, being in the SF for a number of years, and myself still in. We met during my deployment, which ultimately set our relationship up for success.
October 5th, 2011 we left our home to venture down to Ft. Benning, Georgia to see his son graduate from RASP and become a Ranger (he is so much like his father!) After spending a few days there, we drove up to spend two days at Ft. Bragg, NC, to visit the museums on post, our last stop the Airborne and Special Operations Museum in Fayetteville.
October 10th, we stopped by the Special Operations Command Headquarters to see the memorial wall and Green Beret statue, fondly known as Bronze Bruce. It is truly beautiful-- stepping on a snake to liberate the oppressed, a hand outstretch to offer friendship. In the base there is a time capsule containing an SF uniform, a green beret, a bust of JFK, and his [original] speech presenting the green beret to Special Forces soldiers. Needless to say, this is my fiance's favorite memorial-- and now it is mine, because he proposed in front of it!
His proposal couldn't have been more perfect. I'll always remember it, and it will be so nice to be able to visit the site in later years and remember that day, and tell our kids that this is where their mom and dad got engaged
