Just Engaged and Proposals

How tight is your ring?

I just got my engagement ring resized because it slipped over my knuckle way too easily. When I picked the ring up, it fit perfectly! Well... I don't think I calculated in heat and finger swelling. I can still get it off but it takes some pulling and twisting. It feels fine when on, just hurts like a b*tch when taking it off. I've never, ever worn rings before getting engaged so I have nothing to compare it to.

How tight are your rings? Should I go get it resized 1/4 size bigger? Ughhhh!!! TIA

Re: How tight is your ring?

  • Mine fits perfectly.  When my hands are really cold my ring will flip around but it isn't so loose that it will come off easily.  When my hands are swollen or hot, my ring can be difficult to take off but it never hurts.  If its hurting to take off I would have it resized just a little bit bigger.

  • Mine fits perfectly.  Sometimes, if I'm cold, it can be a bit loose, but never to the point of coming off.  If it's really hot out, then it can be a bit tight, but it never hurts to take off.
  • I am in the same boat as you are! My ring was a size too big when I got it so I had it re-sized. The woman at the jewelry store told me that tighter was better so that the ring wouldn't fall off. Well...of course I listened to her...and now it takes a lot of effort, hand cream, and a little bit of a struggle to get my ring off.

I am going to end up getting it re-sized a tiny bit larger before the hot summer comes along!

  • I'm actually going to get my ring resized for the same problem. The rings I wear on my other hand sometimes need a little coaxing to come off when it's hot out, but they fit pretty comfortably. I would almost rather have the ring be a little snug than be able to slide past my knuckle.
  • You should be able to comfortably wear your ring year round. If you have a ring that is leaving a slight indentation on your finger... its to tight, it should be loose enough that if you shake your hand it doesn't fly off.
  • Mine fits well no matter what. Sometimes feels loose, but never to the point where it falls off. My FI had my ring custom made and when I went to get it sized, the jeweler told me to account for swelling in heat and for swelling if we ever decide to get pregnant.

  • When I got my ring sized I had them make it a quarter size.  I can normally wear a size 4 but if my fingers swell (as they do during the humidity) it would be way too tight and a size 4.5 would be too lose during the rest of the year.  So they made it a 4.25 which is perfect.  During the humid days it can get a little snug and there were nights where I'd apparently take my ring off in the middle of the night because it got too snug (I wouldn't even know I did that until I'd wake up and my ring is under my pillow) but for the most part my ring is the perfect size.

  • I have big knuckles so I had to get it resized smaller.  It is very hard to get past my knuckle, but once on, fits great.  Obviously my fingers swell from time to time.  However, I have not taken the ring off since I got it resized.
  • When I went to get mine re-sized (it's ginormous!) they said that it should not come off when trying to pull it over the knuckle, and you should have to twist and work it over the knuckle.  That way you know for sure that it isn't coming off unless you want it to!
