I am recently engaged (been 3 months) and told my parents of the great news. They were friends with my fiance's mother many years ago (approx 10 yrs ago) that ended sour and I feel we are getting the short end of the stick. They have accepted him, but make sure to remind me on a weekly basis how much they despise his family. I understand all of this, but it ended in a battle between my sister and his while they were in high school. They are now 23 years old, and its time to grow up and get over things.
His family is exstatic about the engagement, but I cant even discuss us being engaged, without hearing about not being financially stable, family drama, or just being walked away while Im talking. Its frustrating, because we want to have a spring or fall wedding, and I desperately want to go look for wedding dresses, talk about shoes, music, venues, and I have no support. I have not mentioned anything financially to anyone besides my fiance, and we are going to make it work. We both have 2 boys from previous relationships. They get along great, are close in age, and my 2 children have no father figure, besides my dad. My fiance has taken in my 2 boys, and treats them as they are his own. My family is very appreciative of this, and love that he treats them so well. I just wish that I could have my mother and sister to talk to, be excited about the engagement and ideas, and I dont know how to talk to them about this. I sit on my laptop and look up ideas, but have nobody to show the dress of my dreams to, or anything. Any ideas or advice on how I can approach mainly my mother, who has plenty to say about his family, but nothing to say about our special day....Do I say something or leave it alone and do this whole wedding on my own without their support? My sister has said she is ready for the batchelorette party and reception but that is the most I can get from her. Thank you in advance.
