Just Engaged and Proposals

Newbie!

Hey everyone! I've been engaged for about a 2 years now, and my fiance and I just started brain storming of what we're going to do for our wedding. So much planning that we don't even know were to start. We do have a date set up for January 9th, 2016, yes it's plenty of time to plan and save for our special day. Problem it we're both in school I'll be graduating next year with my AA and then transfer to get my BA, I'll be going away for college and he's staying in town for school and work purposes. We have been slowly budgeting and getting a rough idea of how much were going to be spending. He's always working and we've bearing have been spending much on it. I've been doing everything myself so far, of getting together of the little things mostly. I really want him to be part of everything on this. I just don't know what to do?

Re: Newbie!

  • Welcome!!

A 6-year engagement? Kudos to you for being so patient! I was supposed to get married next week and decided to move it up a whole year because I got so tired of waiting and we've been engaged just over a year!

  • Congrats.  That is a LONG engagement, but I guess technically I have been 'engaged' longer too if you count the the unoffiicial time fi asked me when we were in highschool LOL.

You have so much time so you should have no issues saving up and getting little things here and there.  By the time the 1 year mark rolls around, you probably wont have much to do but chill and relax.  Since you'll be out of state from your fi for awhile, maybe hold off on any serious planning until you can both be equally involved.  Good luck.

  • I think that you are doing just right because you are trying to make sure you have enough money. However, y'all waiting because of school is smart. Finishing school is very important so I hope y'all both finish. Also, just ask him about things he like so that y'all can compromise because that "day" is about y'all two.

    Good luck with everything :)
  • Thank you so much everyone for the support! =) Things have been in rough waters lately this week with the planning, since i'm practically doing everything on my own. I was wondering is this normal when planning a wedding and going to school? should I be concentrating on the small things for now? I just feel lost when I'm doing this. lol this is so hard
  • My sister has been engaged for 7ish years now and is finally getting married next summer (hopefully).

And don't worry too much; youo've got plenty of time :) I'm just over two years away and honestly haven't really planned anything yet. And keep in mind that you could have different opinions on colors, bridal party, etc. in a few years. A year ago I thought I wanted a purple/brown wedding. We're now planning blue with some undecided color, lol.
