Picking out your own engagement ring?

With FI, for nearly nine months we would pop into a jewellery store here and there (maybe four in total over the months) and if I really loved something I would get them to write down the information. When the time came he had a few cards to choose from, so I had a surprise ring and a surprise proposal..... and somehow picked out my absolute favourite one..... although it could have been tinfoil and a twist tie for all I cared
