My now fiance, Pat, and I recently were in Paris for vacation. We met there after I had a work conference in Barcelona. I used to live in France after college but it was Pat's first time to Paris so I was so excited to show him around my "hometown".
On our very first day there, we walked around the Latin Quarter and over to Notre Dame, which was one of the places Pat insisted on seeing as he loves history and had recently done a lot of reading on it. We took a bunch of pictures in front of the cathedral but he wanted to walk around and see it from the other side where it was much less crowded. We stood back there for a few minutes when I asked if he wanted to take a picture from the bridge nearby to get a full view of the entire cathedral. He replied with a straight "no", which was not like him at all. He then started saying all of these wonderful things about how much Paris means to me and has been a part of many big moments in my life and that he wants to create another big moment there. He then pulled his bag around and started getting a box out of it. This whole time, I just was saying, "Are you serious? You're not serious!? You said it wouldn't happen here!" and of course crying with happiness! When he asked me to marry him, I answered with a resounding, "yes of course!" I know he said a lot of other sweet and wonderful things, but that part is all a bit of a blur!
I was completely surprised by the proposal as he had led me to believe for months that it wasn't going to happen for a while still. As I talked to my family and friends afterwards though, they all said that they knew it would happen there!
The rest of the trip was obviously that much more magical and wonderful! We met almost 2 years ago at an improv comedy class in Chicago so it wasn't too surprising that we had fun with our pictures, including the one attached here! Wedding is next October in Chicago and we can't wait!!
