I flew over to London to celebrate New Years with my now fiancé, he being from and living in the UK we wanted to celebrate the holiday with his family. A few days before New Years, we took a train from his grandparent’s house, a regular tradition on my visits, to spend the day sightseeing around London. We arrived in the city via train mid morning, pulling into a station that I had never seen on my visits before, it was vast and spacious reminded me of a lot of Grand Central Station, the walls stood high and stretched far, the ceiling littered with sky lights as to give the appearance of being outdoors. I thought it was lovely but really hadn't thought much more, my mind was too jumbled with excitement to get out sight-seeing, the city was calling and I wanted to go, so needless to say I was not overly exuberant at the idea of standing around talking about a train station when Big Ben was within walking distance but still I strolled along the station, admiring the old architecture and seeing the flutter of thousands of people buzzing though the station all with destinations and loved ones to attend to. I began to get a bit intrigued; I listened as he explained about the history of the station and its ever so famous clock. We paused briefly underneath the clock, the monstrosity sat resting about 40 ft above our heads it seemed to float from the sky, its physique was grand and large and very, very vintage, reminiscent of a time and era long past, I could imagine men and women running into each others arms, so much similar the way they did in the Hollywood movies of the 40’s and 50’s. Reality brought me back when my perceptive hearing heard him utter the comment ‘someday I’ll propose under this clock'. I didn’t see him get down on one knee and no ring so I assumed today was not going to be the day and as he proceeded to walk towards the exit, all I could think was dang I was so sure today was the day. We left the station, I a tad bit disappointed but none the less I was in London with my love so it was all good. We strolled along, the weather was quite mild and pleasant, and we spent the day as we usually did, venturing along the Thames, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St.Paul’s, oh by the way the views are magnificent but very complex to climb! Where was I, oh yes Harrods, Tower of London and Tower Bridge. You get the point. Now throughout the day as we talked and walked admiring the beauty of the city, the discussion of the clock kept creeping up into our conversations, and it would always contain the same gist about the clocks history for being a place for lovers to meet and propose, I began to get a bit suspicious at his new interest but figured he just garnered a new obsession with old clocks. As we trolled along the Tower bridge it began to rain so I huddled close to my fiancé as he received a phone call from his close friend, this friend just so happened to be on a train to London with his other half, so he asked to meet us at the same station we arrived at earlier in the day and with the prospect of the inclement weather pouring down on me I was quick to say yes, so off we went to the station walking as fast as possible, I remembered that morning seeing a cute little bar, in the station and thought grabbing a drink and waiting for them would be a good way to dry off, At first my other half was ok with the idea, but then like a light switching on, something dawned on him, and he quickly retracted with a no, we were to be waiting under this clock .So there we stood under the clock waiting for what seemed like ages, my fiancé frozen in one spot standing completely still, I knew something wasn’t right. Ten minutes passed, twenty, then thirty, I said about going to sit down but he insisted we wait right were we were. Then out of the corner of my eye, I see our dear friend and his girlfriend making there way through the crowd, an unusual smile among their faces. We approached, said our hellos, and not a moment after my fiancé started on with the clock. I about ready to say you are really fasicnated by this clock . But my thoughts were to slow to his actions as he started to reach into his jacket stating’ I always wanted to propose under this clock and now I’ll get the chance’ with that he got down on one knee and opened a box to reveal what I had been hoping for all day and for months. The words just flowed so fast out of his nervous mouth ‘ I love you will you marry me’ and with that my respond and look on my face was quite priceless and was definitely a very fast response of ‘yes!!!’ as he stood back up he said ‘I’m ready for that drink now ‘
