Could I get some advice on the wording of the engagement announcement I'm preparing to send in to the newspaper?
[Me] and [Fiance] of [Hometown] are delighted to announce their engagement.
[Me], a 1999 [local high school] graduate, is the daughter of [Mom] of [Hometown] and [Dad], also of [Hometown]. She received her bachelor's degree from [College] and her law degree from [Law School], and is currently a [job] at [company].
[Fiance], a 1995 graduate of [distant high school] and veteran of the United States Air Force, is a student at [College] pursuing a degree in accounting.
A September 2011 wedding is planned.
I know the bride's parents historically published the announcement, but my parents are divorced, my dad's a lot more interested in doing it than my mom is, and I don't want to make things weird. And I'm fine with us announcing our own engagement. I want to mention my parents' names, but I'm not in love with the way I've phrased it. Also, my fiance was raised by his late father's mother and is estranged from his mother. (His father passed away a few years ago and his parents were together until his death, but my FI lived with his grandmother for about 80% of his childhood.) I'm going to ask what he'd like to say (if anything) about his family, but if anyone has any ideas about what I might suggest I'd be glad to hear it.
Thanks!
