Trying to find honeymoon spot, Cancun area...

Hi, we are trying to pin down where we want to go on our honeymoon. We both like Mexico, and are leaning toward the Cancun/surrounding area. We have looked into Cancun Palace/Sun Palace/Moon Palace AI, but discovered Secrets Maroma Beach and really like how it looks/sounds. Only have really done research on Trip Advisor and looked at some of the guides that travel agents give out at bridal shows. We want to go for a week/week and a half. Will be in August 2010, wedding date is 8/14/2010. Thinking that at travel agent may be able to help us find a better deal-figure it'll run us around 2-3 thousand-UGGHHH!! gives my heart palpitations . Any thoughts about either place and leads on a good travel agent in the area. Appreciate any and all thoughts! TIA!

I have booked a few trips directly on the Apple Vacations website and we still get assigned a tavel agent to talk to.  I recommend Apple vacations as they consistently offer good deals, have great customer service pre-trip and at the resort (there is an Apple rep at the resort to discuss any issues that arise).  We considered flipping hotels on one trip and instead of wasting time making calls in a foreing country, we talked to our Apple rep and he did the calling while we hit the beach and checked back a few hours later.  The airfare, transfers and hotel and mostly all have all inclusive food/drink - all included in the ticket price.  I vacationed in Riviera Maya a few times and have recommendations there, but not cancun! GL!

We honeymooned in the Riveria Maya at the Valentin Imperial Maya and really loved this resort.  It was adults-only, and I think that makes a huge difference, so if your budget can swing it, it is definitely worth it.  We used a travel agent out of New Jersey (Berman Travel) and had a great experience--the agent had stayed at our resort 3 times during its first few months of operation, she answered all of our questions via either e-mail or phone, sent us copies of her own photos from the resort, and managed to secure better flights and a better price for us.  Contact info is in my married bio.  HTH

We are currently looking into where to go for our honeymoon too (we get married at the end of May 2010). I recommend checking out the honeymoon board here. They seem to have some good advice. My best friend went to Cancun for her honeymoon and loved it. I went in college during Spring Break (a little different situation) but we had a blast. I think we are planning on going somewhere in the Caribbean for our honeymoon. We have yet to pick a travel agent (so I can't help you there). I have also heard good things about Apple Vacations. What I like about them is they carry large, medium, and small resorts. We are looking into medium-sized resorts so Apple would work well for us. Good Luck and let us know what you pick.

Apple puts together some nice packages. We honeymooned in the Riviera Maya at Iberostar Paraiso Lindo through an Apple vacation that our local travel agent hooked us up with. Locally, we used Pleasant Valley Travel.You can't go wrong with any of the Iberostar resorts, I'm sure. They may have some in Cancun. It's worth checking into.

Riviera Maya is an area south of Cancun, you fly in to Cancun and then take a shuttle about 30-40 minutes south...   I imagine you would leave for the HM around 8/16, which still leaves about 6 weeks worth of hurricane season.  I'm not sure, but imagine Riviera Maya to be a little more protected from hurricanes just due to it being slightly higher elevation at ground level for the resorts.  Definately check with a travel agent at least to get ideas.We are looking right now through Apple Vacations & Orbits-- some of the four start all-inclusives start as low as $700 per person for 7 or 8 nights.  If you can budget $1500 per person you'll be able to afford almost any resort out there, and stay for the 1 1/2 weeks.
