I have been with my boyfriend for 8 years and he just proposed to me last night! I can't explain the giddiness, but I'm sure most of you can relate!
I left on October 10th to care for my sister and her young daughter while my sister went through chemotherapy. I just returned home last night, which made the entire time away 2 months and 11 days - forever.
So, the story goes like this - I was showing him a ring that I got while I was gone that is just a cosmetic style ring that is a huge black and silver flower. I asked if he liked it and he said no and that he could pick a better ring. I have been asking for a ring for a long time, and not an engagement ring, I just wanted a nice ring. He has never gotten me one because he feels as if it doesn't mean anything and takes away from the engagement ring...silly boy. Anyway, I told him I had never gotten to experience his ring buying taste with the exception of my promise ring 7 years ago. I told him I have never gotten a fun ring, a just because ring, or a real ring and laugned at him. He laughed and then held out a wooden ring box and I felt as if I couldn't breathe! He got down on one knee and told me how much he realized he doesn't ever want me to leave his side and that he wants to spend his life with me. I immediately started crying and gave him a hug and a kiss. Of course, I said yes!
Aftewards, he asked if I was surprised and I told him I was and if I had expected it, I certainly wouldn't have been making fun of him right before it! I can't wait to begin the wedding planning and start out lives together as a married couple. I couldn't imagine finding a more perfect man and am so thankful to have found him as early in my life as I did. We met in elementary school and graduated high school together. We have been through a lot together and 8 years later, we are finally ready to begin the next stage of our lives together!
