Newby to Knot - just Engaged.

Hello fellow newbs!!!   We got engaged on Christmas Morning this year and I'm super excited!! Hoping to have our wedding either in June or September 2013...

Does anyone have any advice on how to pick a day? I'm stuck on that one. Someone told me that picking a date close to a Holiday (such as Memorial Day or Labor Day could be less expensive as far as hotel rates for my visiting family. To me it sounds like it would be the other way around...

Better idea to choose a venue first and see what dates are available. Don't want to get your heart set on a date and then not be able to find a venue. June and September are the two most popular wedding months, so I wouldn't be surprised if things have already started booking up that far in advance. As far as booking on/near a holiday; it's generally frowned upon.  Good luck!

Congrats on your engagement!

Pick a time of year that you're interested in (ie Spring/fall) and then narrow it down to a month or two that you like. Then go see the venues you're interested in and find out when they're available. Pick a date that your venue and church/ceremony space are both available and that works for you and your VIPs (parents, siblings, etc).

Congrats! I got engaged on Christmas morning as well. The rates for motels and hotels will be high around hoildays. But hoildays or no hoildays they are high here in Maine starting memorial day weekend though Labor day weekend. Gotta love tourist season. Thats how it is here in Maine anyway. And I worked for a motel in the past. I was given advise on picking your venue first. See what they have available for thoes months. You don't want to get your heart set on a date and have it not be available.
