Re: IM ENGAGED!!

  • Congratulations! I just got engaged about 1.5 weeks ago so I'm in the same boat. What has helped me so far was to talk to friends who got married and ask how they did it. I also bought a wedding planning book with an attached accordian file that should help me with my planning.
At this point, try to have as much fun with it as possible and try to start organized. I'm hoping that will make things easier for me in the long run.
    Good luck!

This is a biggie.  Talk to FI and figure out how much you are able to contribute.  Then decide whether you are going to ask your parents and his parents to contribute.  GL!

[QUOTE]I disagree with asking your parents to contribute.  They will offer if they would like to or can afford to contribute to your wedding.  It's rude to assume they will and rude to ask. May I say the first thing I would do if I were you is take a deep breath and enjoy the moment.  It only comes around once in your life.  Then talk budget and guest list.  I think it's very important for one of the first things to think about to be the people you would like to spend your wedding day with. And... CONGRATS!

I see what you mean about asking.  This is very individual to your situation, which is why I say discuss with your FI whether you will be talking to your parents about this.  FI and I didn't even ask our parents.  They volunteered to contribute (which I know is not everyone's situation).

  • Congrats!
First think of a date, the guest list, and a budget.  As far as asking your parents for money, IMO this is different for everyone.  You know your parents best and can make the decision to ask them accordingly.  In my family it was always known that my parents would pay for everything (within reason) but I know people whos parents would have disowned them if the asked for help paying for their wedding.

  • Congrats!! I just got engaged about a month ago and it is like a whirlwind! I would say first figure out the date and budget because when it comes down to looking at venues this is whats gonna count!
I def recommend getting a wedding planning book, I think one arm has gotten buffer due to me carrying it EVERYWHERE with me! Take lots of pics of anything that peaks your interest and shove it in the book for when it comes time to look at that category!
Be aware of people wanting to be negatively involved. I'm dealing with people telling me I'm crazy because my budget is too low. Really? If you break down your budget properly (they even have cheat calculaters on this site and in a wedding planning book) then you should be fine unless you decide its worth spending more than what you designated on those really cute napkin holders! *guilty*
It'll be a roller coaster experience but itll be a blast and full of memories! Hope any of this helped!! Good luck and best wishes!

  • Congrats on your engagement! It really depends on your wedding date as to when you start planning.
