Did your fiance ask your dad?

My boyfriend told me he is going to ask my dad's permission before proposing to me. I just wanted to know, is that something that is still common? I thought that was kind of old-fashioned now, but it's still very sweet. I'm happy he thought to do that without me having to say anything!

    He talked to my dad about it before he popped the quesstion, but I don't consider it asking for "permission" per se; like others have said, it was mostly to get my dad's blessing. 

    I liked that he did that- we're both pretty traditional in that sense (I'm a total daddy's girl, and FH gets along really well with my dad).  And it's funny, because before he proposed, he had said that it was more important for him to ask my dad than my mom (neither of us get along all that well with my mother- not hostile or anything, we're just not that close).
