My boyfriend and I planned this elaborate vacation that would take us from Minnesota to the East Coast and then to Texas for 9 days of catching up with family and friends before I start my final semester of undergrad in 3 weeks. On our 4th day of the trip July 29 we decided to spend the day just the two of us exploring DC. It was 107, with a heat index of 114. We spent the day looking at monuments, and memorials and museums; taking pictures and making memories and essentially melting in the heat.
Well after walking the mall for almost 5 hours at this point, we finally get to the U.S. Botantical Gardens and walk into the orchid room, it's absolutely beautiful in here. He starts acting a little weird and taking double even triple photos of plants, finally I suggest we keep walking through to all the rooms and can come back to this one before we go. We walk through all the other rooms and a half hour or so late we come back and he starts taking more pictures, at this point I realize he may be up to something when he walks away from me whenever anyone else comes in the room. After 10 minutes of no luck being alone he reaches for my hand and says "I've been thinking about what to say to you for years, but all I have is that you are my best friend, I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?"
It was so simple and so sweet. Our friends and family cannot be happier for us, we got many "about time" and "finally" responsives. We've been dating for almost 5 1/2 years, and had to promise my grandma we wouldn't wait that long to get married.
Ready to enjoy the engagement for awhile before starting to plan anything, but very excited!
