Re: How did he propose...

  • On top of the huge ferris wheel in Navy Peir (Chicago IL) He distracted me then when I turned around he was on one knee!
  • During the sunset at the same beach we had our first date on (even though it was pouring rain).

  • Aww... those are all so sweet! I forgot to mention how my Fiance' proposed...

We were in Telluride, CO at a resturant overlooking the town and mountains and he proposed right after dinner with the most amazing ring! It was perfect, just like in the movies!

  • On my birthday (this past Tuesday), he served me breakfast in bed. When I lifted the warmer off the plate, there was the beautiful engagment ring box. He droped on one knee and ask me to be his wife. I'll never forget this birthday!
  • On Sunday, snuggling in bed, I rolled over and the ring box was sitting there open facing me. I turned back and he asked me to marry him, then had to remind me to put on my glasses and take out my ugly retainers!

Anyone else getting cross eyed from staring at it so much? :)
  • We were on vacation with a  group of friends. Everyone had headed out for the night but I was the last to shower and still getting ready. He made us some drinks and asked me if I wanted to play a game while we finished up our mix drinks and I got ready.  I love hangman so it was the first one I suggested little did I know though that my FI knew me all too well... I WALKED RIGHT INTO MY OWN PROPOSAL! at our 3rd round he had put "will you marry me" as the answer. I was so shocked by my amazing skills that I didn't even realize it at first =] But once it hit me I was amazed by this amazing man in  front of me.

And I am totally cross eyed over my ring! <3.

  • These are cute!

My fiance and I were going to a B&B in Cape Cod for the weekend (we live in DC), and I was absolutely positive he was going to propose. Every time he suggested we do something ("Let's go to the beach." or "Let's take a walk") I was sure that was going to be the moment. The second day, I was in the bathroom putting on my makeup, and he asked if I'd turn around for a sec. I did, not even thinking about why, and there he was on one knee with the ring out. It was absolutely the only way he was going to be able to surprise me, and he totally did! I nearly fell over!
  • Karen I know what you're talking about with staring at my ring so much!

My fiance had gone to my father ask him for my hand in marriage, and then took my mother to the jeweler to find the perfect ring :)   He came home from work and found me in bed taking a nap, resting up from a long day (it was two Fridays ago).  He can never keep a secret from me, and he apparently had so many other plans as to how to propose to me, but he couldn't wait--- he walked into our apartment, greeted me in waking me up from my nap, and proposed! It was so him, and so perfect with all he did and said in the proposal!

...I of course was crying from such happiness!
  • He didn't ask my dad, even though they knew it was coming sooner or later.  I had just been confirmed in the Catholic Church after the Easter Vigil mass (the night before Easter Sunday) and after church had cleared out, if front of both of our families, he got down on one knee and gave me this nice little spiel about how he wanted to be with me forever and he wanted me to be the mother of his children. I said yes (of course) and turned bright red (or so I think). I had a slight suspicion it was coming, b/c he had asked me questions like 'are you still sure about our relationship?' He also knew how devastated I was b/c he had moved out of state in Jan for a job (it was one of the hardest things I have had to deal with) and I couldn't follow right away, but I ended up moving with him this past June (just about a year to the date b4 our wedding day) and now I will be with him forever!
  • First off i totally know about staring at the ring too much , lol !

This Wednesday , Nov 18th i was coming home from a long boring work shift and normally my now fiancee would pick me up but he told me he had to be home earlter than usual to get online to play world of warcraft. Since this is how we met i know it happens soemtimes and assured him it was fine and the bus was easy enough to take home. Well on my way home it got really cold and windy and some guy followed me off the bus i had to lose him , and then a car nearly runs me over in the crosswalk. Needless to say i was grumbling and cursing his name the next 20 minutes as i walk in the door.

He turns around in his computer chair and smiles and says "Hey!" , like he always does , happy to see me and comes over and hugs me while i throw my crap on the ground and open my laptop , hungry and still annoyed a little. Out of the corner of my eye i see him grab his jacket which he wears often in the apartment to keep warm. i have my head resting on my right arm which is propped up blocking my vision of anything , and then he calmy says my name and there he was on one knee proposing to me, ! He totally surprised me even though we picked out the ring together , the proposal itself i never saw coming. For me , it was perfect and i will never forget it :)

  • It was July 3, this past summer, at a country club for my fiance's mother's surprise birthdaty party. Little did I know I was also in for a surprise. Right when the sun was setting my fiance asked me to come with him to look for a golf club he left on one of the greens earlier that day when he was golfing. Completely oblivious to anything I went along. As we're looking for it I spot candles, and I just knew. he pulled up to the prettiest spot on the whole course and when I stepped up under the tree he had an arrangement of candles in a huge circle and rose petals everywhere with our favorite dave matthews song playing in the background and then he got down on one knee and proposed :) oh course I said yes and then 2 minutes later after a long hug FIREWORKS went off! and then we were greeted by our parents and siblings on golf carts as well! it was perfect.

PS his mom thought she was going to the country club for my fiance to propose and I thought I was going for his mom's surprise birthday! Both were a success and we BOTH were surprised :) we joined the party afterwards and celebrated with family and friends. It was a "day of" engagement party!
  • My fiance and I did things a little different.  He had known for months that I was the one for him, and it just took me a little time to realize it.  We'd talked about getting married and knew that we had the same ideals, values, and wants in our relationship.

Ian had bought the ring, and of course, he can't keep a surprise from me, so he showed me a picture of it online.  I liked it, but liked another ring better, even though I didn't tell him.

Then he had to go about the way of proposing, or at least planning.  Once again he can't keep a secret, so I knew there were a few ways he was going to propose--at a Keith Urban concert, on Catalina Island, at Reyes Peak, casually when we were together, or when we were having pictures taken.

I went to visit him in July for two weeks (he lives in southern California, and I live in Eastern Washington).  After about a week of visiting, he let me wear the ring.  He hadn't proposed yet, but he might as well have.  We had to get the ring re-sized and then I had to give it back to him.

The last night I was in California, we had our pictures taken. (They were our engagement pictures one way or another, and I kind of knew where it was heading...) The sun was slowly setting and the color was getting just right.  In front of a gorgeous house on Newport Beach (Balboa Island) Ian got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!  Of course I said yes!
  • Three years ago Dan visited England with his family, and when he came back he told me that he had found the place in which he wanted to ask me to marry him.

This past June, after he graduated from CMU, we took a trip to England (so I knew it was coming, but didn't know exactly when or where.)  I had a feeling it would be in one of Shakespeare's gardens, but there are about 5 different houses/gardens associated with Shakespeare.  The first two we went to I was excitedly looking around to see if there was a spot that seemed like one he would pick.  It ended up being the third house we went to, on a bench with an ivy trellis above it, overlooking a garden with a fountain.

We sat down, and he told me that this is where he was sitting three years ago when he knew he wanted to marry me.  And then he propsed!  I said yes, of course. :)
  • All of these stories are so sweet and great! We are a bunch of lucky girls! Like most of you I stare at my ring all the time too! I can't help it, its beautiful and I've waited my whole life for this! I love hearing about all of the stories!
  • I had been traveling for work for two weeks so he was able to shop for the ring and pick it up. When I got back home we went out to dinner at a restaurant that we both love. Its a small family owned restaurant and we go there pretty often so we know the owner. I had no idea he was proposing. We ate dinner and ordered dessert and when our dessert came the waitress told us the owner wanted us to try a sample of another dessert and he was going to bring it over. The sample desset was a lg white plate with WILL YOU MARRY ME written in chocolate. I was caught by suprise and could not even talk. Finally someone in the restaurant yelled did she say yes and I was able to say YES, We have been together for just over 4 years and live together so I knew it would happen eventually but I had no clue it was going to be that night.

  • I forgot to mention.... the ring that my fiance picked out (no help from me) is perfect!  It's not the ring I wanted, but it's dainty and it fits me and my personality to a T!  And it's not just a solitaire diamond....it has sapphires too, so it's different!
  • I was completely blindsided!  I was 100% convinced that I would either get the proposal on my birthday (August 29th), when we were in Disneyland in October, or at Christmas.  Well, we went to Seattle for a weekend at the end of July (24-26) to celebrate his birthday by going to a baseball game (his favorite team, the Indians, was playing the Mariners).  I had considered him proposing that weekend but figured, if anything, he would propose during the game.  Anyway, we took a picnic dinner to a park overlooking the city on Friday night.  After watching the sunset, he went to "get his camera out," but inside the case was a ring box!  My jaw dropped!  I thought he was joking at first; I was just so surprised!  It's all a big blur to me now, and I didn't even cry!  I was just so overjoyed!  And now, four months later, I still can't stop staring at the most perfect ring in the world!

    Congratulations to everyone!!! =)

I keep you with me in my heart, you make it easier when life gets hard.
  • I had just come home from a horible day working at the hospital and I was in a rather bad mood. My roommate had something to cheer me up, it was a package in the mail that came for me. I opened it up and it was a book and the cover had the picture of me and my fiance on it. I continued to read the story outloud, it was a FAIRYTALE story of how we met. At the end of the book he said one last surprise was waiting at the front door and all of a sudden I heard a knock at the door and I opened it to find him on one knee!! The book is amazing with pictures dating back to highschool! I was suprised with his creativity!

We were on vacation in Las Vegas and had already planned on taking  a tour to the Grand Canyon.  Last Wed, Nov. 11 we got all the way there, did the skywalk and on to the next stop. As we got off the bus, he dragged me over to a quiet spot and I was trying to take a picture of the canyon. He finally got me to turn around to talk to me, said he loved me and hugged me and pulled a box out of his pocket. He said to me, oh what's this? look what i got you. I thought he got me something at one of the gift shops, then he opened the box and I started crying and hugging him, so he asked me to marry him. Was going to get down on one knee, but i was hugging him. Definitally a trip I'll never forget and he says it was a good thing I didn't push him into the canyon lol Laughing I had no clue even though we had been looking at rings, right up until just before we left. He had the ring hidden in his socks in our luggage and wrapped up in kleenex in the little gift box. We even had to go through a metal detector at the skywalk... luckily i was busy getting a locker to notice the detector went off. I just love my ring!
  • at discovery Cove in Orlando. We were siwmming witht he dolphins and the trainer told me the dolphin was going to bring me his toy but instead the dolphin brought me a buoy that said will you marry me. So i said yes and when we got out the water he popped out a ring and got down on his knee in front of all the people in the park and there was a photographer.

Then they gave us champagne, chocolate, and a private cabana on our own private part of the beach. It was nice.

  • On Memorial Day weekend we were snowshoeing (in shorts b/c it was warm but still several feet of snow) at Crater Lake, which is one of my favorite places in the world.
We were pretty much alone once we got away from the lodge area.  At one of the pull offs I was snapping pictures of the gorgeous view oblivious to what he was doing behind my back.  He said my name, and I turned around to him on one knee with the ring open and he asked me to marry him.
When we got back to our hotel he had brought champagne to celebrate.
It was a total surprise!  He had gone out a couple days before to buy the ring (which was perfect by the way), and the night before he asked my Dad for his blessing.
For about a week, I kept getting distracted by the sparkly ring on my hand.

  • My FI surprised me with a trip to Savannah, GA for the weekend.  He knew I had always wanted to go, so I didn't think anything was weird when he suggested we go.  The day couldn't have been more perfect!  It was a sunny day, May 1st, and the weather was gorgeous.  We did a lot of sight seeing, ate lunch at this great tapas restaurant, had ice cream and walked around, and by mid-day I could tell something was up.  He kept says things like "Today is perfect"  "What a great day" "Today is a good day", and I kept saying..."Yeah, it is!".  He took me to the water front, but apparently couldn't get up the nerves just right then to ask, so we ended up driving to Tybee Island, which is about 10 minutes away.  He managed to find a wooden swing right on this beautiful beach and started into the speech that most guys give before they ask.  It was the most surreal moment when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!  I was in such shock that I forgot to cry, which he hasn't let me live down!  I cried the next day on the way home thinking about how exciting the next year would be planning the wedding and getting ready to be his forever.  What can I say, it was a delayed reaction, but TOTALLY perfect.  I have a picture of the chair and the beach that I stare at all the time.  And the ring?  He did an amazing job!  I didn't give him any direction on what I wanted and he nailed it!  Oh this year cannot go by fast enough!
  • I was planning a surprise bday party for him and 2 weeks before his party we went to a wedding and one of the guys from the wedding ruined it for him!  so at his "suprise" bday party when i told him to make a wish and blow out his bday candles he turned to me and said the only wish i have for my birthday is for you to marry me and got down on one knee and gave me the most amazing ring!! :)  i was stunned all of our family and friends were there and knew except for me!
  • I actually proposed to him! I am not one for traditional gender roles, and he has always been well aware of this. Somewhat early in our relationship, we has also discussed whether he would be offended if I ever did propose to him. I didn't want to steal his thunder of course.

So anyhow. I blindfolded him and told him we were going somewhere special. I then took him to the hotel suite I had rented for the evening. I took off his blindfold and he followed a trail of rose petals to a counter where I had spelled out "forever?" in rose petals. It was awesome. We then celebrated with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries and stayed up all night talking [among other things lol!]
  • At the beach.  I thought he was going to do it on the cruise we were going on.  I bought a nice dress for everyday.  He asked me 3 days before the cruise on June 11, 2009, because he knew I was expecting it.  The night he asked we went to the beach, even though it was raining, foggy, and dark out.  We were both wearing sweats and of course my hair was frizzy.  I was telling him if he didn't ask me on this cruise he was going to ruin my life and that I was going to break up our 7 year relationship if he didn't ask me.  I definetly didn't deserve the ring.  We walked down to the beach to see the erosion and then he told me to go over where the light was because he wanted to see me.  I heard him playing with something in his pocket.  I heard a snap like a flip phone closing.  I wasn't sure so the ring I had on my ring finger I took off.  He then got down on one knee and started saying all these amazing words.  I was balling and of course I said yes.  As we walked back to my car we were so happy.  We get in the car and a cop pulls up behind us and puts the brights on.  He gets out of his truck and proceeded to tell us that we weren't supposed to be there.  I responded crying that he just asked me to marry him.  The cop said "congratulations, and I was going to give you a ticket, but forget it."  I was so happy he threw me off instead of asking me on the cruise.

  • Justin had always told me he wanted to propose at Fort Bragg, Ca.; so I had kinda expected it when we (another couple and us) decided to go there. The entire time planning it, they assured me he wasn't going to propose. So we go to glass beach and walk around, nothing suspicious, until sunset when we went to the dunes. Our friends were on another dune taking pictures while Justin gets down on one knee and asks me to marry me. Then I started to hyperventilate a bit and kissed him and then remember to say yes! Those pictures are some of my favorite!
  • We had just moved into our dream house. It was HOT (100+) and the second day of the move. I just hit a brick wall, I was so exhausted, literally almost crying from fatigue. We had everything in and had been unpacking boxes, so he told me to just go upstairs and get a shower and we'd get the rest of the day off. So I did - came down the stairs wearing my favorite, rattiest pair of hot pink yoga pants and an old ratty black tank top, hair still wet, no make up. I flopped onto the couch and I could hear him in the kitchen opening a bottle of wine. Not unusual for us - we are wine people. :) I started dozing off and he came into the room with the wine bottle and two glasses. It was a VERY good bottle and I assumed we were going to toast the new house. He poured for us and sat down by me, pulling my feet into his lap, then very simply paused, looked at me with this tender smile and said "Will you marry me?"

I laughed and told him to knock it off. We've been together 7 years now and he told me quite some time ago he just wasn't ready and wasn't sure he ever would be. I had come to accept that marriage just wasn't really going to happen for us and I had reached a point of peace about it. He just smiled and rubbed my foot and I asked him if he was serious. He said he was. And all I could think for a minute was "Here?? Now?? OMG I look AWFUL!"...and then was all "Don't ruin this moment, don't ruin this moment, who cares about your hair!" talking to myself in my head, my heart beating so freaking hard. Major shock...I was so tired,  I almost thought I was imagining things.  And he stroked my face, then held me tight and kissed my head and I started crying and forgot to say yes. lol!  He told me I could have some time to think about it - and that's when I remembered I had to answer him. :)
  • After having a dozen roses and breakfast delivered to my moms house in FL, and another dozen roses waiting for me at my gate at the airport....I walked into his apartment (in Chicago) to find a third dozen roses (for our future) and 2 French Bulldog puppies waiting for me- one of which had my beautiful engagement ring tied around its neck.  I turned around to find him on one knee outside his front door- so that we were engaged before I moved in ;0)
  • My fiance proposed to me on our 4 yr anniversary. He took me to Mt. Rainier. Just before we were going to start making our way down the moutain we stoped at this beautiful, secluded cliff. He then bent down on one knee with the ring in his hand and asked me if I would marry him!

My FI was in another province for a course/workshop. He had been gone for about ten days or so by this point, and was supposed to be away for another 15 days.

It was a Saturday evening and I was home in our apartment, watching a movie.

I received a text asking if I would marry him. Which was odd, since that is something generally he would prefer to ask in person - I replied yes. I received a strange phone call shortly afterwards. Turned out he was being taken to the emergency room at the hospital and was not sure what was going to happen, so wanted to ask me if I would as he had been thinking about it for a while (we had talked about marriage before all of this as well).

I immediately arranged to get on a plane to get out there as quick as possible - had to drive from my smaller city, to a bigger city, then catch a couple flights out there. Managed to get there the next day, however he had been moved to another hospital and had to then drive another couple hours to get there. Once I was there (and we figured out what was going on and he was fine) he told me he really did want to marry me, and asked again. I again said yes.

We stayed out there the next few days, a couple while he was still in the hospital, then another in a couple lovely hotels (including the resort we are having our wedding at), before coming home, and had a bit of an "engagement mini-holiday" - it was quite fun :)

No ring. He asked if I wanted one, and I opted not to have one. Our engagement is short, and I am not fond of big rings, and we would rather save the money for other things together. Instead we went and chose some beautiful wedding rings together, and were able to spend a little more there as we did not go with an engagement ring.

Since then we have asked one another many times - in random places or at random moments and talked a lot about why we want to marry one another. So far, we always say yes ;) When we tell our story, people sometimes seem bummed out at the lack of a romantic tale, however the FI and I  love it - as it was very genuine and real and very us.
