Hi everyone! I have mostly been a lurker for the past couple of weeks. We got engaged on the beach in NJ the day of the eastcoast earthquake (he had already planned to ask me that day), so we can always say the earth moved for us

Since then we have been trying to figure out a date. We have figured out that we both like the idea of a May wedding, since we hate the Winter, and it will be nice to come back from our honeymoon and have the whole summer to look forward to doing the things we love.
The big question for us is May of 2012? or 2013? Or another date in between that we are not too thriled with but at least it's a good amount of time to plan?
2013 is over 1 1/2 years away and seems a long time to wait. We are ready to be married and even bought a house togther last Winter. FI likes the 2012 idea, esp because he has a few relatives with health problems that he really wants to be around for the wedding. He says 2013 seems like a crazy long time to wait.
2013 really does seem like a long wait, but I think that is still my strong preferance. The house we bought is a fixer upper and we are still fixing because we are doing most of the work ourselves. We still have several months to go before it will be liveable. I am also a bridemaid in my girlfriend's wedding in October 2012. She, and another bridesmaid in her wedding are going to be in my wedding as well. I am a bit concerned about getting things done with both a house and a wedding in 8 months. We also could really use another year to save for the wedding and the honeymoon since most of our money is going into the house. We both LOVE to travel when we can afford it and would really like to spend 10-14 days for our honeymoon.
I hate to push for 2013 though since his older realtives are pretty much all he has and I also really want them to be there. I also can't wait to get married! But I also want us to enjoy the planning process and not stress and I want to be able to be a good bridesmaid for my friend.
Thoughts? How far in advance is everyone else planning? Are you finding your timelines too long or too short?
