Just Engaged and Proposals

engagement gifts

My fiance and I just got engaged this past weekend, and I would like to give his parents each a gift for being so welcoming to me. I know what I am giving his mom, but I have no idea what would be good for his dad. I am giving his mom a custom antique hanky that says "thank you for raising your son to be the man of my dreams." Any ideas on what to do for his dad??

  • I did not buy engagement gifts for his family. I will buy his mama and grandma something at the wedding. I did however buy him something.

  • for men, you can't go wrong with powertools. do they own a house?
  • Can you take them out to a nice dinner with your FI? I'm not really sure that it's necessary to gift a physical gift...save those for the many birthdays and holidays to come with your new family!
  • I didnt give them gifts either, only because I plan on gifting at the RD. I did think about just giving  her flowers and an edible arrangement for the dad since he loves them but then I scraped the whole idea.
I would suggest taking them out to dinner or maybe a GC to somewhere they like to go.

  • I got my future father in law some nice cufflinks for his birthday.... but now i wish I got something a little more personal.

I would reccomend a nice pen (fits any budget $30- $300!) and get it engraved with a meaningful note or date or "from Mike and Lilly" he will think of you both whenever he uses it.

  • Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions!
I forgot to mention that his dad is gay, guess that would have been important....
I think I will take the advice of giving the gifts at the RD, since I will be giving the BM/GM gifts there anyway.
Also, I didn't think about giving his grandmother a gift, that's a great idea!

    Thank you!!
