I wore my engagement ring for just two weeks before the diamond (a very old family stone) fell out, prongs and all. The jeweler is fixing it gratis, of course, but I'm worried that I will be a nervous wreck and not want to wear it anywhere! Of course, there is insurance, but you cannot exactly replace a family stone that is more than 100 years old. Any advice? (I've heard it could be a bad batch of metal (white gold), which would make it vulnerable to further damage, yikes. However, my jeweler does not seem concerned/very accommodating.) Anyone have some advice to help me calm down/reassure me?
P.S. I am actually very depressed about this... is that normal?
