A few weeks ago, my boyfriend of about 1 1/2 years and I were talking about our future, and he said "We should get married!" I asked him if this was his silly way of proposing and he said "Well yeah, that would be amazing."
The next day he told my mother that we wanted to get married. She asked us when and he said "Definately soon".
Over the coarse of the last few weeks, I don't have my ring but he has told his entire side of his family that we are getting married as well as some close friends of his. He was comfortable with the idea of setting a date of September 1 2012 and comfortable with me going to my second job (which just so happens to be at a bridal butique!) to try on wedding dresses with my mom and bff.
He is a very casual person, so the situation is a little different. He isn't comfortable with the idea of telling my father we're getting married. My boyfriend and I live in a house with my dad, so we are all very close. If he can't tell my dad yet I don't know if he is for sure wanting a marriage.
He tells me all the time he does, but he doesn't want it to be so out in the open yet because I don't have my ring yet and he doesn't want people to think that we aren't serious about it because some people have already asked if we were. I don't know if I'm acutally engaged or not? How should I handle all this? I don't want to hurt my dad's feeling by not telling him and have him find out through the grape vine. The problem is, my boyfriend and I want to move out into our own place very soon, and I don't know if he plans on getting my ring first or if he wants to move out first.
