Online Programs

Is anyone on here doing their degree entirely online? I am currently taking night classes but I'm considering doing online next semester (my current school doesn't offer many classes online, and no complete programs). So I was just wondering if anyone is doing an online program and if so, what are you majoring, what is the school, and how has your experience been with it so far?

Re: Online Programs

  • I am starting my Master's in Social Work which will be comppletely online and it will be through the University of North Dakota.

My opinion regarding online degrees is to look up 'real' schools such as any UND (where I will be going) but ANY school that has a physical campus and that you would hear high school seniors talking about applying to. Most employers (and I got this straight from the Dean of my undergraduate college so please, nobody take offense) really want to see a 'real' college listed on that transcript, especially if you did the program online, versus a 'University of Phoenix.'

When I broke the news to my professor/boss/advisor,  I was going to be doing my Master's online, she covered her eyes and laid her head on her desk. Then I said it was through the University of North Dakota and fully accreditted and accepted by the Council of Social Workers, she lifted her head, smiled and said 'okay.' She then told me she was going to smack me if I said it was through the U of P I mentioned above because it's not real, it's useless and I will never get a job.

You really just have to sit down at the computer, and do some serious googling. Search for "degree you are interested in.' There should be a site where you can school comparisons of which schools offer the degree. Then the schools will tell you if they offer it online or not. Voila!

I highly recommend doing it online. However, you have to be motivated and a definite self starter since there is not a 'real life' physical professor to kick your butt into gear. But, if you have a husband/kids, a F/T job/a long commute or like me, a physical disability, online schooling is AWESOME.

G/L and feel free to PM me with any more questions!

I actually live in Grand Forks and am getting married on the campus of UND. It just surprised me to see you mention UND.

As far as online classes go. I completed the last two years od my BS in Business Management/Human Resource Management from Park University and am half way through my Masters in Business Management from Central Michigan University. I am doing this program completely online as well.

I think in order to be successful at online courses you need to self motivated. I take two classes every 8 weeks. So, there is a lot of work to get done in a short amount of time. But, the convenience for me is a big plus. I also have a 6 year old and work about 50 hours a week.

I also think it's important to take classes from a school that is accredited and has physical campuses. These types appear to be accepted more then schools that are entirely online. My FMIL is a college professor and believes that online degree programs were one of the best things that could have happened to the education field. Because of online programs, those that wouldn't be able to take traiditonal classes now have the opportunity
