Law students - help?

I'm in the middle of articling applications.

I am volunteering this summer at a firm I LOVE, but I have to go through the formalities and apply again to article with them. 

I have a cover letter done, and I want to get this job soo badly, but I'm wondering if my cover letter is too.. aggressive? or maybe too sappy? 

I would really appreciate some brutally honest opinions. Do you think naming the people I am working with is stupid? 

This is not the entire cover letter, just the paragraphs specifically related to this firm: 

I was extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity to volunteer this summer at LAWFIRM. Even though I have only been apart of LAWFIRM’s team for a few days, I learned quickly that this is where I want to article. It would truly be an honour to continue to work in the estate  department with A, B, C, D, E, and the rest of the LAWFIRM family. It is easy to see why LAWFIRMs' reputation in CITY and surrounding areas is so positive. 

 

I am excited at the prospect of articling at LAWFIRM, for LAWFIRM has a strong reputation within the legal community for their comprehensive and impressive legal team, and their student program aimed at student success and learning speaks volumes to their commitment to ensuring their students are well equipped with the skills and training necessary to become excellent lawyers and strong advocators. Further, I feel like my personality fits extremely well with this firm, and I am over-whelmed by the kindness and friendliness the staff at LAWFIRM have hown me. Even though LAWFIRM is the largest lawfirm in CITY, the emphasis on team-work and collegiality is felt throughout the entire firm.

I can't comment on the tone of the letter as a law student, though I will say that for all of the grad school applications I've read, the ones that I find overly eager/cheesy, the administration and other profs just eat up.  I don't know if it works the same for this sort of thing.

I just read it quickly, but why did you spell it 'honour'?  If you live in Canada or some other non-US country, then that's completely fine.  I only point it out because I've seen a few Americans whip out British spellings when they're trying to be formal, so unless it's actually appropriate for you to be using that spelling, you may want to change it.

If you have already worked with this law firm, and you built a relationship with the partners (or associates) who will be reviewing the cover letter, it looks great to me.  Attorneys love to have their egos stroked!  Also, the letter emphasizes your loyalty and respect for the work they do.  Good job!
