Picking a date!!

Im currently in community college and will be starting pharmacy school in fall 2011. I want to have my wedding the summer before I start pharmacy school. I was thinking in June 2011. The problem...my younger sister is getting married in May!

So not only am I working around my school schdule but Im scared to have my wedding to close to my sister's wedding. I don't know if I should do it anyways and not worry about my sister's being 1 month before mine!

I need advise!!!

Re: Picking a date!!

  • I really don't know how I would feel about that. I have two older sisters and while they were planning and executing their own weddings, as with any other wedding, everything is concentrated on them, EVERYTHING, as it should be, and while I feel like I'm the last to do everything and resented the fact that they were constantly being celebrated, and that goes with being the youngest child, I know that my time will come soon, and everything will be all about me...FINALLY.  If you are concerned with sharing the spotlight, then I'd probably move the date around a little bit. Also, bridal showers are typically a month or so before the actual wedding, and if that would be the case, you would be sharing that special day for you within the same month or very close to your sister's other big day.  It all depends on your preference and your sister's and your family's opinion on the matter.
  • I would suggest talking with your fiance and your sister about it.  What is comfortable for all of you?  Maybe try doing the wedding the end of June?  Or even waiting until July might be an option.  Pushing it to July might work better for any family/friends that have to travel.  The most important thing, is make sure everyone is comfortable with it.  Your sister deserves her attention just as much as you deserve yours - so I wouldn't let the weddings overlap.  It is YOUR day, make sure it stays that way.

  • I went through the same trouble when picking the date for my wedding.  We wanted to have a late summer/early fall wedding that didn't conflict with my school schedule--but we also had to work around our birthdays (both in August), my FBIL's wedding (mid-September) and all those holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc).  We finally settled on October 16th...Sure, it's in the middle of the Fall semester, but the stress will be worth it :p
  • I'm in the same boat. I had decided to take this fall semester off from university so I couold work and save up some money before going back to school in the spring. Then we got engaged and ideally I would like to have the wedding next summer (June 2011) since I am already going to be saving up money, but my fiance's brother also got engaged a couple months ago so they are planning for around then. Plus, my youngest brother is graduating from high school end of May 2011 so that puts another dent in my plans. It is looking like we are going to wait until summer 2012 but I really don't want to wait that long :P
