Is a wedding planner worth the $?

I am full time grad student, working 20+ hours a week, traveling on the weekends, got HW, projects, studying, working out, etc. and I can't imagine how I am going to add wedding planning on top of what I do already. People have suggested a wedding planner, but I am concerned about the cost. I am paying for my wedding and don't have any money to throw around but I also know that I need to start booking vendors/venues b/c I have one year as of now!  Any advice? Can I get this done myself or is the wedding planner a good route to go?

Re: Is a wedding planner worth the $?

  • I'm using a planner and I have a very involved FI... I could not have done it without either one of them... I love my planner... 1 vote for planner
  • I am having a wedding planner myself and I promise to you that you won't regret it.  Well she doesn't charge me a certain % or commission - she just gave me a package w/no hidden fees and my FI and I decided to take it :)

  • i'm doing a day of event coordinator
  • our venue came with a wedding coordinator and at first i didnt think she was necessary but once it got down to two months before the wedding i was definitely thankful for her!  yesterday we met for the last time before the wedding and she gave me a huge hug and i nearly cried because i could not have survived this emotional (love and hatred lol) process of planning a wedding.  I think you really need someone to be the unemotional one, I could not have asked my friends or my sister to do that for me.
