graduated in october, still no job

I graduated from culinary school with a bachelors degree in hospitality management in oct 2009.

I had to take a LONG break in between graduating and looking for work because i hadknee surgery and broke my leg (which turned out to be very complicated, with a long rehab period)  Now i am finally cleared to work full time..but i am getting married in 2 weeks, so i figure no one would hire someone just to give them 2 weeks off for a honeymoon...so things are pushed back until the first week of july...

I am having the hardest time finding anywhere in the sacramento area hiring front of the house people...I do not want to go back to working in a kitchen, mostly because i hate it but more than that because i honestly cannot stand for that long with my knee

So my frustration continues...any ideas???

  • Have you talked to the people at the school where you got your degree?  My sister went to culinary school and they had a job placement program, sort of like the school counselor, and they got a heads-up of all sorts of places that were hiring.  She got a job on a cruise ship, which you probably wouldn't want to do as a newlywed, but she did have other options.

As for the interviewing - I did job interviews knowing I was going on vacation and told them up-front in the interview: "Just to let you know, I'm going on vacation in August.  I am willing to use up vacation days in advance if that's a possibility, or I could start after I get back."  If the people weren't willing to work with that, they didn't have to hire me.  All three jobs I interviewed for said it was not a problem and thanked me for letting them know.  Basically what I'm saying is, you can apply now if you want.  You may not even get contacted until after the wedding, anyway.
