Hey, you said in another post you're also going to Boston for grad school? Sweet! Where at?

Re: *j&n3*

  • I'm going to Boston College for Education-- how about you??? Smile
  • Cool! I'm going to Suffolk University for Communication Studies. I'm so excited. II had always wanted to live somewhere in the New England area, so I'm really looking forward to it. Just getting ready for the big move at the end of the month.

Does your FI go to school in Boston as well?
  • Sadly, he lives in Maine for Law School :( I'm so nervous to make the move to Boston-- I'm going later at the end of this month too. I'm afraid I'm going to get lost on public transit-- how ridiculous is that? Hahaha I love Boston though! Nice going for communication! When will you graduate?
  • Omg, I totally understand the public transit thing. That's my biggest fear, too! I'm going to need the whole week leading up classes to figure out how to get around. I've never been to Boston, but I've always known I wanted to be on the east coast. FI is in love with Boston so he was like, "Go to school there! And then I'll follow you!" Easy for him to say - I'll be on my own for a year while he finishes undergrad. :P

I'm doing a 3 semester program, which is really weird. And I want to write a thesis, so I have to figure out if I start working on that this year already, or if I get all of year 2 to do it.
  • Go us! Two girls alone in a city! I'm glad I'm not alone-- yeah buses and trains really freak me out. I keep dreaming about taking the wrong "line" somewhere or having a fiasco getting off the bus or finding a bus stop.

I'm doing a year and a half too, so 3 semesters. My thesis is supposed to be for the last semester, thank god!

  • Ha, I love that you put "line" in quotation marks, because I really do feel like the transportation system has it's own lingo. For instance, I'm still confused as to whether "the T" refers to only the subway, or the train (or are those the same thing also?) or all things transportation. I think it's the latter. At least I hope so. Guess I'll find out when I buy a monthly pass and can't get on a bus or something...

I guess year and a half programs are more common than I thought. But hopefully that means I'll be doing my thesis next Spring. It'll be good to be done with wedding stuff before having to work on that.
  • OMG I don't know what the "T" is either! Haha for awhile I thought it was just both? So confusing... I'm buying a monthly pass too. I hope I make good use out of it, instead of hiding out in my apartment from the outside world.

It totally would be nice to have the wedding stuff out of the way-- where are you getting married? Back in your hometown?
  • Haha! Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Man, if any of the other Boston ladies on this board are reading this, they're probably having a good laugh!

While I would loooove to get married in Boston, since it's going to be our new home, we didn't feel right forcing both our families to make a trek halfway across the country for us. They're all scattered across the Midwest. So we're tying in the knot Michigan, where FI lives. He's got one year of undergrad left there (on the 5 year plan) and so since we were planning on a Midwest wedding anyways, we thought it'd be easier to plan it in his state where he still is, than mine (Illinois), when I'm hundreds of miles away. So I'll fly in for the important meetings and such, but this way he can handle all the minor things at his convenience.

    What about you two?
  • Hahaha they probably are!

I can't believe how far apart you two will be! I'm always upset by how my FI isn't living close but I'd say 2 hours is pretty close compared to that!

It's really cool you're getting married there! Boston is an expensive place to get married anyways.

We're getting married in Maine, since it's where we both met! :)
  • Yeah, when I was going to school in Illinois, we were about 5 and a 1/2 apart, and we'd see each other a lot at tournaments when we competed against each other, and just spend weekends together about once a month. And this summer since I've been back home it's been about 8 1/2. Adding on a few hours doesn't change how hard/easy it is; we'll see each other just as much, it'll just be a longer drive.

I imagine a Boston wedding would be expensive. I remember looking at venues around Chicago, which is about halfway between St. Louis and Lansing, and that was expensive enough. But hey, Michigan has much nicer summer weather anyway.

Maine will be a gorgeous place for your wedding! I've never been but now that I'll be out east, I definitely plan to make a trip there. Are you having an outdoor wedding or indoor?
  • Wow it will be so nice once you two settle down after all the driving and long distance!

Yeah, we're having a winter wedding so it will be indoor-- but I kind of hope there is a blizzard so I can go outside and play in the snow! Haha Yes, Boston is so close to Maine, but the city is 2.5 hours away, so it's just a train ride away! It's a great place to go!

I've never been to Michigan, but that's alittle bit farther away!!! :)
  • Yeah, Michigan is a very pretty state, and they have pretty mild summers so I'm very excited about having our wedding there.

Ooh, I've never been to winter wedding, but I just think they'd be absolutely beautiful. And the snow would make for just gorgeous photos. Plus, wedding party snowball fight? That'd be awesome.
