Hi everyone! Intro

Hey ladies!  I'm new to the boards and just wanted to introduce myself.  I'm graduating this may with my (fairly useless) BA in Psychology.  FI and I are moving to Atlanta in June where he will start his PharmD program at Mercer.  I'm starting a BSN program, but I eventually will be a CNM (certified nurse-midwife for those not familiar).  We're getting married next June and I think we have decided to go with a Hawaii wedding.  If anyone has any advice on planning a wedding from so far away, I'd love to hear it.  Thanks for reading!

Re: Hi everyone! Intro

  • What makes you think your degree in psychology is useless?  What were you planning on doing with it?

  • Sorry, I probably should have clarified.  I didn't mean that it's useless in general, just useless for me.  I changed my mind about what I want to do for a career, and it doesn't really help me to have it at all.  I'm going to have to get a second bachelor's degree- a BSN in order to do what I want to do.
  • Welcome to the board and congratulations!  A DW in Hawaii sounds lovely- we are going to Maui on our honeymoon.

As far as advice, I'd say if you have any time off before you start school for your BSN, try to get a lot of the big stuff out of the way.  I finnished most of our planning (ceremony and reception venues, photographer, catering, DJ, etc) before I started med school this year, and I am beyond happy I didn't have to work time out of my schedule to go visit venues and such.  It's all fun but can be very time consuming.

Just remember to have fun!  Happy planning!
  • Good luck with everything and happy planning!

  • Lol, psychology degree=useless!  I'm doing med-type stuff as well, a BSN is awesome but I totally know what you mean by your undergrad degree feeling useless.  I actually DO think psych is helpful no matter what you go on to do- understanding people is the key to just about everything- but the medical field is great at making you feel like chemistry and biology are all that ever matter.

I could have graduated in a semester with a psych degree because they took all my neurology transfer credits as psych credits, but I've never taken anything but psych 101 and I thought it would be totally useless to have a degree in something I knew nothing about!  Two years later... I'm not so sure.  At least I'd have a degree!

Welcome to the board!!!  I too have my Bachelor in Psychology.  It might seem useless, but it does come in handy I think in all aspect of life, work, etc.  I too changed my direction after I graduated from Psychology as well.  Life happens, where you find something else that you want to pursue.  Good Luck with yours.  A DW wedding in Hawaii sounds great!!  Check out the Destination Wedding board under wedding theme. Happy Planning!!
