Dumb people

The worst part of my job is the collections part.  People, pay your bills!!  You know you owe us for doing work to your home...pay us.  I don't want to call you.  You got an invoice pay it!  Oh, your deductible?  Of course you owe it.  Don't act like you don't know what a deductible is.

Dr.'s and lawyers or people that hold a higher degree, PhD's are the worst ones!  They try to get out of paying any way they can.

U guys dont collect the deductible before u start work?
  • edited December 2011
Most of the time, yes, but usually we are nice and say to pay it at the end.  It's the same as a car repair place.  You have to pay the deductible before they will fix your car if it's an insurance claim.

what happens is that alot of times they will get estimates and give the highest estimate to the claims adjusters. the adjusters will pay this to them directly and then they will go with a cheaper company trying to get out of paying there ded. or just to come up on money....don't know if you ever have this problem either kasi but we get it all the time where the customer will get the money from the adjuster and then they will never pay the construction companies...usually when this happens we end up being bill collectors too!!

I eventually turn mean!  LOL.  Last year out of $5.5 million we earned I collected all but $33,000.  Not bad.  The boss took me in to her office and praised me because that's like a 1% loss and she said it's unheard of.  Did I get a raise though?  NO!  HAHAOh, about bids.  We won't compete.  If we find out the homeowner wants comp bids we won't do it.  We usually get assignments from the insurance companies or referrals from insurance carriers.  Sometimes we will get a cold call.  So man people swear they never knew they had to pay a deductible...really??

I love State Farm because under one of their programs we get paid direct.  Oh we also request draws to be paid when we know the owner has the $.  We make them pay as we go or we stop work.  I hate most when the mortgage company is named on the check.  SOOO ANNOYING

Are you serious Lacey?  We sat across from a couple who complained about their food, ordered extra, then complained when it was time to pay.  they ended up with a free meal!  I was sooo pissed!

oh yeah... we get SOOO many walkouts. And if you ever catch them, they give you this dumb look and normally say something along the lines of "oh... i didnt pay?" WTF?! how do you not remember that! We get so many people that come in, eat their entire meal, then say it was bad, and then want it free. its really irritating.

How do you refrain from slapping or yelling at them?  I would never have that patience at all.  I would say something smarta$$ in 2 seconds.  I cannot stand people like the ones you described.  My sister tells me stories about serving and it appalls me.
