Our taxes were pretty high as well.  They were still assessed at the value the last owner purchased the house for which was 3x what we bought it for.  I filled out the paperwork and went to mail it but when I checked the mailbox I had a letter from the county assessor stating they had already done it.  The new value is much closer to what we paid.  I still hate the stupid "city beautification" taxes though!  Adds at least another $1400 on to our taxes.  Those should be matured in 2013.  Can't wait!

we're on hold right now trying to figure out how to do it. we pay almost $900/month in taxes, HOA and mello roos and it would be really nice to lower it, even just a little bit.
  • edited December 2011
where did you get the paperwork for it?

We did that paperwork last year since the previous value was assessed at about 100k more than we purchased it for. HOA sucks.... Thats why Jamie and I made it one of our rules that we wernt going to live somewhere that had it.

They had ours previously assessed at $205,000 more than we bought it for.  that's a lot or extra taxes we were paying.

Yeah and the crappy part is they make you pay it still then they saend you a check months later... Jerks!
  • edited December 2011
Eek, well, I will definitely take a refund check...don't care when it comes...just give it to me!  LOLYea, I agree, we made sure not to get stuck with an HOA.  I almost was going to go for houses with HOA's because they have their good points (like people having to keep up their yards, etc.) but they are so freakin pricey.

Dont even get me started about the freakin taxes! Redlands taxes are so crazy and we paying the previous owners tax as well. We did have ours reassessed but now they are telling us that its not updated to the escrow company on a monthly basis but annual. So our taxes will not actually go down until June of next year.
