Moving

So I am trying to figure all this moving sh!t out, and I am really stuck on what to do about my cat.  I know she is going to majorly freak out when I move her, but I can't bear to leave her here at my parents.  I'm the only one she loves!  At first I was thinking that driving with her would be way too hard and would prolong her freakout compared to flying with her.  So I was planning on moving (driving) to WA, then after a few weeks, fly back down here and fly up there with her.  But now, looking at flight costs, I think maybe I should just bite the bullet and drive with her.  I don't know how many of you have/had cats, has anyone ever moved a long distance with a cat?

You can buy meds that will make her drowsy and it will make the drive easier on you and her. They are all natural too.

Yeah I would sedate her I think it would be better for her just so she doesnt totally freak out. I know she might not be able to sleep the whole time but any bit would help :)

We moved 2 cats out here from Wisconsin. Our one cat is totally chill so he didn't really care. Our other one rode in a carrier the whole time. She was kind of skitish though. You will just have to deal with her meowing for a little while. I also would suggest what Jojo did, get some meds for her to keep her calm.

I would recommend sedating the cat. I had to sedate the dog when she got spayed because she was so hyper. It didn't knock her out, but she was so calm and just laid in her kennel with not a care in the world. The one I gave her lasted 12 hours and work within a half hour of giving it to her. I got it from the vet, and it was cheap, since you just pay by the pill. I know you can call and ask the vet on El Evado for a pill or 2 and they will give it to you without seeing the cat. It is called Mesa Animal Hospital.

I will have to look into the natural sedatives.  My friend gave her cats some sedative when she moved with them and the vet suggested she try giving it to them a few days before to see how they react and one of her cats got really sick and she had to rush him to the vet.  My poor cat yowls (thats the only word that can describe it) so loud even when I drive her the few miles to the vet.  I'm more worried about stopping to eat and stopping for the night.

My poor cat has lived in Seattle, Boston and now So Cal. When I tried to move him from Seattle to Boston we went to the vet and got the pills to sedate him. I got as far as Portland (so about 4 hours) before he was so sick I couldn't keep going. He was crying, barfing and super out of it. Thankfully I have family in Portland so I was able to leave him there. I flew back out from Boston to get him and then just flew with him when I moved here. I used the natural pills to fly with him and he didnt get sick at all. My cat also hates cars so driving with him just isn't an option anymore. I think it really just depends on the animal but keep in mind that the drive to the Northwest is going to take you about 20 hours.
