Setbacks!

I posted this on  the African American board,  but Im close to you  guys too,  so here it goes: My honey was another victim in the Wal -mart budget cuts. He  got a severance, so we'll be  okay for the next 4 months. UHHHHH not what i wanted.
This is the part that I haven't already posted------> I just  emailed my vendors  yesterday and told them they're getting paid this week. It's only $100, but I feel like  I'm being selfish if  I use  it  for the wedding. What would you do? Bottom line I have a 3 year old to feed, so the answer seems pretty obvious. My honey doesn't  seem  to mind  either way,  I think that's why I'm conflicted, cause he wont tell  me no. I know what I  need to do, but confirmation is always great. I second guess myself a lot!

I think it depends on your finances and what you can afford to shell out right now for the wedding.  Has he filed for unemployemnt yet?  Of course I would say save the $ money and buy food.  See if you can work somehtingout with your vendors.  they may understand.  You wrok right?  Are you able to cover the everyday expenses while he is out of a job?

    Desi,

Been there, done that and honestly still doing it. Bottom line is you have to figure out what you can realistically afford. Not just right now but long term as well. My FI was unemplyed for most of 2009 due to the economy. Jobs are not steady and very hard to come by. Like Kasi asked, can you afford to pay the bills in the meantime? Is postponing (sp, it's late) the wedding an option? What about cutting back on some wedding costs?

well,  realistically we  can live  the  same as we have been  for the next 4 months since he got the severance pay. So bills wont  be a problem right now.  He told  me  to just  pay  the vendor so that they don't  get booked before us. Our wedding is a year away,  so I dont think a push-back of the date is necessary. He's got a few connections so hopefully he's only out for a month. There's  just always that "chaos factor"  you know... when  things happen that you cant  predict.

If you feel comfortable paying the vendors I say go for it if this is a vendor you must have.

Sounds like you figured it out. If you aren't going to push the date back then book your vendors!!!!

It sounds as if you just freaked out a sec but thought about it and everything sounds like it will come together :)

Sorry to hear about you FI's job loss. I didn't even know Walmart was cutting jobs. I find it funny that they are because they as far as I know they were doing well in alll of their quarterly stock reports. I really hope he can find work soon.

My FI has also had a hard time in this economy. He has lost over half his clientele. Because of that we have had to push our date back. Originally we were getting married September 5th and now we are getting married May 29th, 2011.

I say as long as he has another job lined up just go for it. Or, even if you don't really want to you could always move your date back 5/6 months just to play it safe.
