Bridal Shower question

I have a question about Bridal Showers, What exactly are you supposed to bring? My best friend's bridal shower some people brought the wedding gifts (myself included, but I was the MOH so I would't have time to give it to her at the wedding) and some people brought lingerie and some naughty things, others just brought food. I am confused.

    Shower = gifts to open in front of grandma
    Bachelorette = gifts to giggle over with your girlfriends
