Youngstown Brides: the cookie table.

hello ladies :)

i am from warren, but honestly it's been ages since i've been to a wedding back home. i know the cookie table is a must and we are living by that code, but how far does this tradition lean into being considered as part of the favor? i am doing handstamped muslin bags with european hard candies, tied with ribbon and a tag... which i think is a favor enough for our laid back affair. i know that a lot of people are from further west in Ohio or way out of town and i'll have to explain the cookie table with a sign, and i'll have little plates/napkins and takeout bags or boxes.

what is your personal or family's opinion on this tradition? is it part of the reception food or part of the favor?

    It's not a tradition in my family, but from what I've seen, it can go either way. IMO, if  you already have a favor idea you want to do, but still want to have a cookie table, use the cookie table as after-dinner nibbles with coffee/tea later in the evening. That way, the cookie table is there (for those who expect it) but doesn't necessarily need to be 'explained' for those who aren't familiar with the tradition. If you want to put take-out boxes nearby, just do it. It's a lot like guests taking home boxed/bagged slices of cake. Not everyone will do it, but the option is there for people. Those unfamiliar with the tradition will likely think it's just a nice touch to have a 'pastry table' later in the evening.

    I am also from Warren and I am having a cookie table at my reception.  It is just a tradition around here but I am not making it like a favor.  I am having an actual cookie table which will be set up not too far away from the cake table.  I am not going to explain it by any signs or anything like that because most of the people are from this area.  You could also do what JKOhio suggested and have the cookies brought out later in the evening as like a snack after dinner.  That is a good idea also.  Good luck!!!

    I grew up in NE Ohio, but have lived in NW Ohio for the last 15 years. Both our families live that way, so we're getting married in Canton. When my mom mentioned a cookie table, I had no idea what she was even talking about! Evidently people have already volunteered to make these cookies that I don't really care about.

    I hadn't even thought about the logistics of when to bring out the cookies, but I like the idea of later in the evening.
