I absolutely love Cancun. It has everything, beautiful beaches, nightlife, relaxation and best of all CULTURE. I too am very interested in Mayan culture, the pyramids are to die for. My favorite is Tulum. Plus most of the hotels are all inclusive. The food isn't always the best but I enjoyed myself much more when EVERYTHING was icluded.

    Hope this helps.

I am of no help.  I have only been to TJ and Rosarito.  Mexico scares me now.  I know it's different in Cancun and other parts of Mexico but TJ and Rosarito killed it for me with the crooked cops.

Did something happen with the cops Kasi? The thought of that scared me in Rosarito.

I love Cancun! We stayed at Mayan Riviera and DH's family stayed at Maroma Resort, which is really nice and ridiculously expensive (a lot of celebs are photographed there). We were there for a wedding at Maroma, so we always hung out on that beach.. white sands and so pretty. We saw it on the travel channel as one of the top ten beaches in the world.
The area is called Playa Del Carmen and it is about 20 mins past Cancun and there are a lot of nice resorts and no Spring Breaking going on. There is a pretty large town in the area with lots of restaurants and shops and it was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend it.

3 things stick out in my head from my TJ/Rosarito days.  I was there every weekend.

OK, first experience.  I went with my husband and a few other guys to TJ to go to a club.  The bouncer at the door said one of th IDs was fake so the guy pulled out another ID (military and state IDs) and the bouncer confiscated them and called the cops.  The cops made our friend get in a taxi.  The taxi took him to an ATM and they forced him to pull out all the money he could from his bank account.  They threatened to arrest him if he didn't.  He eneded up taking out what he could and giving it to the cops.  They dropped him back off with us.

2nd experience was in Rosarito.  We were driving around, doing nothing wrong.  The cops pulled us over and made the guys give them all the cash they had on them.  They didn't mess with us girls for some reason.  If the guys didn't they would be arrested.

3rd experience, we were walking back across the border when we saw a bunch of cops by a car that was trying to cross over to the U.S.  They were dragging women out of the cars by their hair and dragging them on the ground.  I have no clue what the circumstances were but I believe the women were American.  Scared the crap out of me.

Because of these things I witnessed, amongst plenty of other things I have heard from my firends at the time that went down there, I have decided to never set foot in Mexico again.  I hear that it's way different in Cancun and other places a further South but I don't care...I'm not chancing it.  It scares me way too much.

I have always been fearful in Rosarito. If I witnessed any of that, I would have flipped out. One SPring Break, five of us girls went and my Mom was so afraid (guess thats where I get it from lol). But I absolutely love love love Cabo.. Jon proposed to me on a beach at sunset in Cabo, but aside from that, it is still one of my favorite vacations ever. I think you would like it too, but I totally get where you're coming from, that's nuts.

Ohhh. So not liking TJ or Rosarito either!

I went down there with some friends for my our friend's bday. When we got down there our friend's truck wouldn't go in park! lol. Since it was stuck in drive...the key wouldn't turn off. So, I decided to drive back with her to our house to get a different car. Well, on our way out 3 cops (American side) walk up to our truck while we are sitting in that horrible line to get out of Mexico and tell us to put the truck in park and get out of the truck! My friend was like, "it wont go in park," The cop got pissed and kept telling her to put it in park. He finally realized it literally wouldn't go in park. We figured out that we could put the parking break on. They made us get out of the truck and sent a drug dog through the truck and tore everything up in the truck! lol. They didn't find anything. I just thought that it was soooo random that they would search two blonde haired chicks in a lifted truck screaming the lyrics of Pour Some Sugar on Me while eating churos. Go figure!
