40-Plus Brides

Introduction

I just discovered this board yesterday and was so excited to see a place where I can be amongst some other older and wiser brides.  Nothing against the girls on the DFW board, but I am old enough to be a mother to a large portion of them.

My name is Paige and I am 44.  We are getting married in January of 2011.  We are getting married in Dallas so we could have 3-12 inches of snow and/or ice, a beautiful sunny 70 degree day, or anything in between.  Ah, the beauty of Texas winters--never know what the day will bring.  This will be my first marriage and my FI's second.  He has a 21 year old son.  I have no children.  We have two furry children.  My FI opened his heart to my bassets the day he met them over three years ago.  We had to put one down last summer with lymphoma and we adopted a baby basset in November.

Looking forward to learning about y'all, your ideas for your weddings, and seeing and hearing about your big days.

Re: Introduction

  • Hi Paige.  I was excited when I found this board too!  FI and I are getting married here in So Cal in June 2012.  I am 40, he's 44.  It's my first marriage and his second.  He's got 2 daughters, 14 and 10, and they'll both be bridesmaids in our wedding (We do have a few other attendants as well.).  We also have a fur-kid named Bailey.  He's was my dog before I reconnected with FI, but now he loves and spoils Bailey just as much as I do.

Our ceremony and reception are at the same place and we are expecting about 160 people.  We are inviting (and can accomodate) closer to 200 people, but hopefully some of them won't come.

What have you got planned so far?  Look forward to chatting with you.

  • Welcome Paige, I am fairly new here myself. I am 43, second marriage for me, first for him, he is 31. I am getting married in 3 1/2 weeks, and extremely nervous and excited.

Do you have a theme? Any DIY projects?
  • Oops--you are correct.  We are getting married in January 2012.  We are having our wedding and reception at the same location.  It has a beautiful chapel with wood floors and gold chandeliers and then a reception room.  My FI's son will be his Best Man.  He, and two of his groomsmen will be wearing their Naval Dress Blues.  My Dad will be wearing his Army Dress Blues.  I am having four bridesmaids (each has been significant in my life at different stages so I am not having any honor attendants--or should I make them all honot attendants) and 2 junior bridesmaids (his niece and my niece).  He will have four groomsmen and my two brothers will be ushers.  Our wedding is planned for 5:30.  A cocktail hour immediately following while we get some photos taken.  Then...let the par-tay begin.  I want this to be a great party for my friends and family.  We are hoping for around 100 guests.

My venue offered a package that was hard to pass up.  There are some things that we really did not need to have, but it was such a great deal for the things that we wanted.  I am pretty much responsible for my attire, the officiant, the rings, the cake, and the photographer.  They are taking care of the food, the bar (open with a signature drink to be named later), invitations, transportation and parking, all of the flowers, reception decor from linens to centerpieces, personalized cocktail napkins, honeymoon suite, ice sculpture if I so choose to have one, and a themed rehearsal dinner for 75 guests.

This is getting long so I will end this chapter now.

Looking forward to hearing more from y'all.

  • I will try to post a picture (not sure I can do it while at work) of the poops (as they are affectionately called--aka Gladys and Lucy Bella).  One is almost 11 (Gladys) and just lost her eyes to Glaucoma the same weekend we got the puppy (Lucy Bella) who is now almost 9 months old.

Yes, I have gone dress shopping and I found THE dress.  Will post that seperately.

  • Miss Lucy Bella sometimes helps Miss Gladys and at other times I think she intentionally runs her into walls.  Lucy is pretty jealous of any attention shown to Gladys and will usually wiggle her way in.  Gladys does pretty well as far as getting around.  If I see she is about to run into something, I will say "oops, Gladys" and she knows to turn.  We are really going to test her at the end of the month.  We--FI, Lucy, Gladys, and I--are going on a roadtrip accross the southeast to visit my brother and his family (including new puppy) in St. Augustine and then my parents in Georgia.  My Mom had a major stroke last year and is pretty much unable to travel so we are bringing the poops to her for a visit.
