And we have another engagement!

My daughter has just become engaged to her long-time partner.  I am thrilled, particularly since I feared that her interest in marriage was so low that she might not bother, even when ready to have children.

The only issue is that her proposed wedding date is two months after my son is expecting his first child.  He is already complaining that it will be really inconvenient to travel with a two-month-old child.  I've just reminded him that he attended his first wedding when he was three weeks old.

Re: And we have another engagement!

  • Congratulations 2d!
  • Yeah, I'm kind of wondering when son thinks is going to be easier to travel than when he has a 2-month-old.  My own experience suggests that unless daughter is willing to postpone her wedding until son's child is in college, two months old is about as good as it's going to get.
  • Yahoo!  You have SO much good news flowing in your family!  It is all very exciting ... very exciting, indeed.  *\o/*  << That's me, doing the happy dance for ya!
Everybody dance the happy!! Congratulations, 2d.  And to your daughter as well, of course. Tell your son it's actually easier to travel with very young infants than with older babies.  The younger ones are perfectly happy to sleep, eat, and get a new diaper occasionally.  They don't need to be entertained as much, they're pretty much immobile and thus easier to keep track of, and they sleep through everything.
    Posted by LucyHC
Yep, that's pretty much my view.  Two months after the birth is enough time for the mother to have recovered enough to travel.  And the baby only gets more difficult after that.

And I would know, as I took my son to a wedding 4 hours away when he was 3 weeks old, and a wedding two days away and in Mexico when he was 7 months old.  On the second trip, we had not only the hassle of travel but the difficulty in finding safe food and water.  And for good measure, I ended up accidentally pregnant--in spite of using a diaphragm and jelly, breast-feeding full-time, and not having sex anywhere near the right time of month--during the second trip.

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but I had to LOL when I read of your trip to Mexico.

Congratulations on all the good news!

Congrats 2d!  That is wonderful news!

I LOLed at your Mexico trip post too.

Somedays I wish my sons were babies again so I could put them in the car and they would just fall asleep - now they just fight LOL.
