I'm back!

I'll have to tell you all the stories in different posts...

First one (and hilarious) is we are driving from St. Louis to Fort Morgan Alabama. I've done this drive many times. Thought, "I'll use my gps on my iPhone. We'll stop overnight in Jackson, MS and go the rest of the way the next day." Wrong. My GPS took us the 45S corridor not 55 to 59. So I thought, "We'll just stop in Meridan instead." Wrong. Meridan was another 20 miles off the main highway (and we missed the exit anyway.) So, we thought, "We'll just get a hotel off the highway. I'm sure there's one just up the road." Wrong.

So it is late, we've been driving for about 8 - 9 hours. We're hungry and want to get out of the car. The exit signs would say there were hotels off the exit and then we'd pull off to find the hotel was another 15-20 miles. Finally, we see an exit that has a "Western Sizzlin" and a "Traveler Inn" we pull over and it is only another 2 miles. First we find the Western Sizzlin. I NEVER eat at buffets nor fast food, but I was hungry and was grateful. It was actually not bad. My H loved the crawfish. Next off to find the hotel. We followed the signs for the Travelers Inn. Never found it.

But we found the Lakeside Motel with free fishing. We knew we were in trouble when the owner was asleep on the couch when we walked in - it was late but only 845pm. She wanted more ID then the FBI, and we got the TV remote with the key and the batteries were secured with tape on the remote. It was a one story building and it looked to be built in the 50's.

Vic is grabbing stuff fromt he car and I went to the room and as I walked in I felt like I was transformed into 1952. I walked around and already found 3 roaches - 2 in the bathroom and one in the mirror area. H walked in and I had him on raoch kill immediately. He found three others and the sound of the crunch made me make funny faces. We had packed wine and top shelf steaks H aged that he froze so we could grill them at our destination so he brought those in to put in the freezer - the only thing modern in the whole joint.

We used our "remote" to turn on the TV and it didn't work. H was going to go to the desk and complain and I said forget it. If anything, see if they have a wine bottle opener so we can have some wine. No wine bottle opener. BUT, one of the bottles we brought was a bottle of almond champagne - intended for the first night at the beach - since we could open it, it was what we had.

Everytime I put the bottle on the nightstand, the light flickered. H has a great sense of humor and kept saying things like. "I know you're trying to get me in the mood with the fancy lighting and champagne..."

The AC worked which was fabulous since it was hotter than heck and the noise also drowned the TV and voices in the next room.

The bed bowed in the middle which was great for making sure we snuggled, but not for sleep. I refused to take my clothes off from fear of what else was sleeping with us. We manged at least a few hours of sleep. In the AM, H kept complaining about his back and hip, etc. My response, "Get the F out this bed, stop complaining so we can get the H out of here!" Seemed to work.

H insisted on taking a shower before we left. The bathroom was that mustard yellow: tile, toliet, tub. There was this reddish crust on the fixtures. His first washcloth had "something" in it and I had to get him another one. He said, "I am certain this is not a low flow shower head because you could wash an elephant with it."

When we went to check out, the owner's german shepard was at the door growling so H decided to use the drop box instead.

All this enjoyment for the price of $39!
