54 and I don't have a clue!

Just kidding. I am 54 and I am frustrated as to information about cruiseship weddings...(are they really cheesy??) and what would be appropriate for me to wear this time...I don't want to look like I am trying to be 23 years old.  We are also considering a destination/beach wedding but this would be really small as we would just have our sons and my mother in attendance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to have something low-keyed and yet elegant, understated yet fun.

Help!

  • I've got at least two couples that I know of who did the wedding cruise ship thing.  They all say it was stressless.  When you board, you fill out some paperwork, they take care of it all, and the day of, you get off the ship, there's a car waiting for you (and the bouquet of flowers), you go off and have the ceremony performed, then come back to the ship afterwards.

There are a couple of things that can hinder any cruise, in that the ship can change the destinations at any point.  So, if you really want to get married on Antigua, for example, there may be some reason at the last minute why the ship ends up at another port (weather, etc.).  Just something to think about.

I think it's what you prefer.  Both of these couples mentioned earlier are very low-maintenance and kind of go with the flow.  They felt that no matter what, after everything was said and done, if they were legally married, it was all good.

DH and I considered going that route, but then we decided to do something a bit different.

  • The cruise ship weddings I researched all had a wedding chapel on board, and before the cruise ship left the port, the weddings were conducted, one after another = that way people who are NOT going on the cruise can participate in the wedding and reception and then get off the ship.

They promise you that someone from the cruise will come get you and your group and escort them to and from the chapel, so that you won't see the wedding group before yours and after yours.

We didn't do that because the receptions are all held in the big ballroom.  You're promised your own "corner" or "location" but you do see and hear all the other groups because they are all in the same room even though you are separated by some space.

And I didn't like the way that no one could take pics inside the chapel and the ballroom reception except the ship photographer and any pics had to be bought through him.

I wore an off-the-rack white 2-piece suit, with some sparkly trim on the top, and a tea-length skirt.  Kind of looks like the suit that Carrie wore when she married Big.
  • Thanks everyone!

I am so conflicted but I know we will sort it out. I so appreciate everyone's input. Thanks!
