call me stupid, but.....

What the heck are Escort Cards?  I have no clue.  Apparently they weren't around when I got married the 1st time.

Sure they were :-)  You probably just called them placecards, though that's technically not right. Like jcb said, they're the cards that are on a table at the front of the reception and direct people to the table they're seated at. Then guests typically choose their own seat at the table. They're different from placecards, which are cards that are already on the table, one for each person in front of their exact seat.

Thanks for the info.  I didn't do them then, and not this time either.  Too much work!

Same here.  Find a seat and sit down.  I don't need to tell people where to sit.  Assigned seating isn't for me - too much work.  For other people, they love it, so to each their own.

Just another worthless piece of paper to spend your hard-earned money on, dressed up as a cutesy decoration for your reception, because without them, your guests would be unable to figure out they need to plant their butts into a chair at a table in order to eat at your party.

I think it depends on the type of reception you're having. My first wedding was assigned seats because it was a "sit-down" affair. This time, we are having the reception at a Yaht club. But before you think all "uppitty" it is actually the opposite. We love to bbq and relax by the water. So there's the Mississippi River (we're in St. Louis) and there's a pool and lots of choises for seating: in the clubhouse with AC, outside by the river and by the pool. I'm going to make a creative sign that says something like: Seating choices: Clubhouse - AC bar area - AC and Dance Floor Pool Area - Outside and wet Deck area - On the river, view of the pool. So this way our guests can pick where they want to be. Christine

[QUOTE]Although we didn't do escort cards, we did have assigned tables.  There was literally only 1 extra seat so if hadn't assigned tables, it could have been a mess.  We just gave the hostesses a list of everyone's names and table numbers.

We plan to have assigned tables (in hopes of minimizing drama between family members), to be displayed like this:

    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/8/14/382fd57e-3271-4c70-9e4e-3d40bdf62b39.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" onclick="return gSiteLife.LoadForumPage('ForumImage', 'plckPhotoId', '382fd57e-3271-4c70-9e4e-3d40bdf62b39', 'plckRedirectUrl', gSiteLife.EscapeValue(window.location.href));" class="PhotoLink"><img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/8/14/382fd57e-3271-4c70-9e4e-3d40bdf62b39.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>

We're only having 8 tables, so our display will just have two windows -- each with 4 panes.  I'm lucky -- just found out a friend's sister had all her windows replaced so we just need to pick them up from her back yard.  Woo hoo!

I am doing an Escort board, just telling guests what table they are assigned to, then they can sit where they want at the table. It is helping me give a final food choice count to my caterer. My guests sent back their food choice, but not who wanted what. So I can basically tell caterer Table Buckingham has 3 chickens and 5 tri-tips, etc. I didn't like the idea of th servers having to go around and take food orders. But thats just me.
