Garter: yes or no?

Ok, in today's Etsy haze I was just wishing there was a way to filter out some of the stuff I am absolutely not interested in. I'm not brave enough to start a thread that asks for what everyone thinks is the worst wedding tchotchke or tradition....but someone else might be.

But for today's poll I query: are you doing the garter thing, garter + toss, no garter....or cake!

Re: Garter: yes or no?

  • My something blue will be my garter.  My college colors were blue and orange so my garter will be from there.  It will be up to my FI if he wants to do the garter toss.  I am presuming he will.  My guess is he will probably have something up his sleeve as well--such as a huge pair of granny panties or a rubber chicken or something silly to pull out from under the dress.

  • I received a blue one as part of our wedding chapel package.  Since we only had a dinner reception, there was no toss.

It now hangs off our dresser mirror with a "Just Married" Disneyland button pinned to it.
  • DIdn't wear one, didn't throw one the first time I got married. I knew we weren't going to do a bouquet or garter toss because I despise when all the singles are called up (not to mention that we got married when I was 39 so there weren't that many singles left).

I didn't wear one either because it seemed bulky and awkward. The only way I would have worn one was if I was wearing it to hold up stockings. I think that's sexy, but I'm 5 feet tall and most real stockings don't work on me so I usually opt for thigh-highs instead.
  • Skipped it.  My something blue was a Carolina Tarheel.  Especially important since our reception was at the NC State Club--and my husband is both an alum and current employee.  I enjoyed raising my skirt and showing the blue, and since it was attached to the hem, no thigh was involved!
  • My FI is 31, never been married, and wants to do every single tradition. I most likely will make sure that garter is as far down my thigh as possible without it slipping off my knee lol.

I made the suggestion I  slip a pair of 30-32 size panties under the garter for him to pull out. Only as a joke because that is the size I used to be prior to a Gastric Bypass in 2001. Not sure how well that will go over.
  • He said no to the garter, but I'm doing one anyway - he's a huge Cards fan.  Hey Honey....Surprise!

  • I am wearing 2.  One to keep one to toss.  My dress is big and foofy - I doubt anyone will see my thigh.
  • I haven't really thought about whether or not I'd be wearing one.  I know we aren't doing a garter toss, but I suppose I could still wear one.  My something blue was going to be a cute little anklette.  Something to think about, I guess, but doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

  • We are doing all the traditions - no first look (that may change), blusher veil, and bouquet/garter toss.

I have fat legs, so hopefully it will stay up just below my knee LOL!  If not, then he can reach up and pull it out, but I aint showing off my big thighs to everyone!
