Dress fitting drama...

so I went for my first fitting today and am so bummed about the outcome.  Granted I got a great deal on the dress (less than $310) b/c I found it on sale, but was told at the time of purchase the alterations I wanted were absolutely possible.I wanted to turn my strapless dress into a sweetheart neckline;... well today the alterations lady told me it would have to be a rouched sweetheart, when I was told it could be smooth.  NOT what I pictured at all!!!!  Also, wanted to remove some of the satin from the hemline to focus on the lace of the dress.  WEll, she told me today I should not do it b/c it would ruin the dress and she refused to do it...  After all was said and done my dress excitement bubble was completely burst and it cost me $250 for the freakin' alterations and it wasn't even what I have been anticipating for the last year since I have had the dress...It better turn out fantastic, but right now my hopes are not high.  Thx for reading... sorry it is so long...

:( I'm sorry. Who are you using for alterations? Why not look into finding another seamstress? I would at least get a second opinion before I just let them do something I was unhappy with AND pay them a lot to do it.

I'm sorry! I agree, you might want to get a second opinion before you do anything.

There should be no problem removing some of the hem, I would go to a different seamstress.

I have worked on bridal gowns before. First, I agree with the posters above, I would pick up your dress and go for a second seamstress opinion. Second, I will add my own thoughts (sorry). I can't tell without a really close up about the neckline, but you should be able to get a slightly deeper V. It may be hard to modify it greatly as there may not be enough fabric to work with to shape it (I can't tell for sure wihtout looking at the dress or seeing it closer), but as the posters above state, it looks great as it is. As far as exposing the lace, if you are looking to do this, I would cut the satin from the train in the back to expose the lace, but probably not cut much out of the front (maybe a half inch or inch to just expose the edge of the lace in the front) as it will look like the dress was hemmed too short or the lining was made improperly. It might help them if you bring pictures of what you are trying to do with the hem. I have put a couple links here (you need to change to the back view) to what I think you are trying to accomplish, but not sure.Feel free to page me if you need more "remote" help.http://tinyurl.com/np3radhttp://tinyurl.com/mxh4o2

How upsetting! Who did you take it to originally?

Poor thing. I agree with what the other ladies said, you should get a second opinion. Whatever happens though, I am sure it will be perfect!!!!!

it was with David's Bridal... they said they couldn't do the deeper "v" on the neckline because there is not enough fabric to do what I want.  The reason for them not wanting to do the hem, was because she said that it would cause the lace to get caught on everything... I may or may not take it somewhere else; still undecided.Thank you ladies for your feedback... it is appreciated!
