July 2012 Weddings

Newbie and a Question!

Hi Ladies!  My wedding is coming up real quick but I haven't really gotten on this board yet so I thought I'd introduce myself!

I'm getting married in a little town outside of Pittsburgh, PA on July 14th!  And today is the one year anniversary of our getting engaged!  We're living outside of Detroit currently, near FI's family, while all my family is still in PA.  I'm a student and done with most of my classes except for basically what amounts to a thesis defense so I'm not working currently so getting back is super easy for me!

My question is how long before your wedding are you getting your e-ring dipped?  I've been waffling.  I need to be back in PA two weeks before to meet with all our vendors to finalize different things and get them their final payments.  My dilemma is, do I get it dipped here in Michigan or do I wait till I'm back in PA?  I'm leaning towards doing it in PA because it's only ever taken at most 7 days to have it done here and that time there was repair done to it as well.  Thoughts?

Thanks! =)

  • Welcome! Where in PA is your wedding? Just wondering b/c my mom's family is from Western PA.

I'm not getting my ring dipped, so I can't really help you with your question. Is this something you've done often?

  • In Greensburg, it's about 30 miles southeast of the city.  Where's your family from?

I've had it done twice now...I'm pretty hard on the ring.  It gets pretty dull on the back and I did my internship at a hospital so I put a lot of dents in the gold.  I love the white gold but sometimes it's just a pain!

Dipping is basically slang for rhodium plating a white gold ring.  The jewelry store doesn't like it when I go in and say, "Hey, I want my ring dipped."  They make me specify rhodium plated. =)  Basically what it does is it will get rid of all the divets in my ring and make it look silver and not the yellow-silver color that white gold actually is.

  • My family is from Indiana, PA, which is about an hour to the east of pittsburg. It should be a nice area to get married in July!

  • Indiana was in our division for school sports and other stuff like that.  I know exactly where it is. =)  Almost went to school at IUP.

[QUOTE]Welcome! We just talked about ring cleaning (which would include redipping for white gold) a few posts down. You'll find a lot of opinions in there. I don't have white gold, but my ring's going in for its 6-month insepection this month. I figure it won't need cleaning again before the day.

I saw that post which is what prompted me to ask.  No one said how soon before they wedding they were going to redip.  Just wondering if anyone had specifics.

I am getting mine done on July 1st. That is what the jewler recommended. which is about 3 weeks before my wedding on the 28th.

  • Mines in the jewelry store now getting soldered, dipped and fabulous for the big day. I pick it up on Wednesday. I had to size it with the wedding bands so I wanted wiggle room in case it needs a return trip. I'm dying to have it back though. A week is WAY TOO LONG.
