Is anybody asking for money as a gift?

Hello,Of course no one has to give gifts, but I have been doing research on how is the best, most 'appropriate' way to ask for money as a gift option.I live in Germany and have a household full of stuff.  Things like curtains, bedding, electronics...all that stuff, well just don't work well here...all European sizes, standards, etc.  Plus, I don't want anyone to bring gifts to the reception because then we have to mail it all back to Germany.I know I should register for gifts anyway...so I am sure I will even though I really don't want to.Has anyone asked for money as a gift option or used a honeymoon registry. And if so, how did you provide that information to your guest?

The correct way to do this is by word of mouth. Create a small registry with some things you may need because some people will just want to bring gifts no matter what. Let your parents know that if someone asks they can say you would prefer cash.

I agree with word of mouth, we told our immediate family (moms and dads) and if they're asked they're telling our guests that money would be a great option. We did register for stuff we would buy eventually but don't HAVE to have right now.

Thanks for the information. I found a registry called www.honeyfund.com where you can register for 'cash' gifts to help pay for honeymoon. You list the type of things you will be doing on your honeymoon and apply increments for how much people can contribute. I also was able to do a 'gift certificate' option for those big purchase items that can't be shipped. People can donate to those as well. You make it all your own!!! It's a great website. I also registered at Bed Bath and Beyond for those guest who like to give traditional gifts.
