Ditto brittjoy and posters on Receptions.  You're essentially choosing your parents' wishes over your FI's.

I'd be curious to see what the FI's response would be if she said, "fine, we can have an open bar...but now we will be paying for the entire wedding."

I wonder who would buy the booze if they did decide to serve it.  Maybe FI is of age?  Maybe they could give someone a few dollars outside of Total Wine...

lol.... we are more than likely paying for the alcohol, more than likely FI since he wants it so bad.

I just read your other post and obviously you need to have a conversation with your parents.  Since they're paying they get the say of the wedding.  If you really want alcohol at your wedding, you need to pay for it yourself. And I also picked a venue that allowed me to bring in my own alcohol.

HAHA! I can picture it now: Them buying some homeless guy a Value Meal at McDonalds or a sixer to buy them a case of booze.

We are of age to buy the alcohol... we just are having issues with the families. My parents arent the only one that doesnt want it there. Plus their arguing factor is that my sister got married and didnt have alcohol at her wedding. But she also got married at 18 so they couldnt have it. Its aggravating but Im sure between now and then we will find a compromise.

Why do you care so much what those people think?  Shouldn't your wishes of your FI come before everyone else?

Her other thread says that FI is already of age and she will be before the wedding. Damn shame too...I was really enjoying the bum image.

My Grandfather is a minister and does not approve of alcohol. This created a real problem for my aunt and uncle at their reception. What they did was a alcohol free reception with a party for select guests after. They started at a house with a full bar and kegs then moved to the bar.

Because it's like choosing the VIP list for your wedding and excluding everyone else.  That's probably why you didn't think of it.

I would probably not make a VIP list or anything. I would just make an announcement at the wedding that were having an afterparty for anyone who wants to come. We have a friend with a house large enough to accomodate everyone.
