To drink or not to drink...

What types of liquor? If we're doing an open bar...but maybe not a full open bar, what types of liquor would be good? Do you think it would be ok to just do a rum, a vodka and a whiskey? Do you think a gin or tequila or even a spiced rum is needed? We're able to supply our own so we can really do anything we want. I just don't want to buy 6 or 7 different kinds of liquor. We'll focus more on good wine and beer choices.

I'm loving all these alcohol posts today!! Happy hour needs to come fast!! I dont think that many liquors is necessary- rum and vodka and whiskey are likely good, with mixers.

That's what my bartender recommended. We are doing Absolut, Captain Morgan Spiced Rum and Jim Beam. Speaking of alcohol, we got three bottles of wine on Sunday for FIs bday, we are finishing off the last bottle right now. This is why I am not buying the alcohol until right beforehand.

I think rum, vodka and whiskey would work. Are you going to have different options for mixers?

Vodka, Whiskey, Rum and quite possibly Gin if your friends / family are into it.  I don't care for gin personally but some of my family members LOVE gin and tonics.

Thanks girls! Jodi- I'm going to double check w/the caterer but she said the bar should be fully stocked w/ cokes, juices and other typical mixers.

As long as you have a good variety of mixers most anyone can make a drink they like with your alcohol choices.

I know this isn't really what you are asking, but I went to a wedding a couple weeks ago where the bride was able to bring her own alcohol. She did a few kinds of liquor, 2 wines, and a few beers. She also had hard cider though, which I thought was a great extra and it's what I had all night.

Since you're supplying your own, I would do, Larger quantity of: -Rum -Vodka -Whiskey Smaller quantity of: -Tequila & Margarita Mix -Gin You also need to think about mixers! -Coke -Diet Coke -Sprite -Tonic -Cran Juice -OJ -H20

I totally agree with Devon's recs.  I'm glad we got some gin because some of our older guests had gin and tonics (you probably wouldn't need very much).

Confession: the only reason I put gin is because I love a good gin & tonic.

I tried gin for the first time not that long ago, and I just couldn't get into it... lol.  I'm pretty simple so I stick with wine most of the time.

I do think rum, vodka, and whiskey are good bases to start with and probably a gin, since, as many people mentioned, a lot of people like gin & tonics as their standard liquor drink.
