Coming in from Ohio to get married in Destin

I need help from anyone who can tell me what the conditions are in Destin. I am supposed to be married there on 4/30/11. The wedding coordinator told me that things were fine, there is no oil, but I worry that there is. I don't want to spend any more money for a wedding that may need to be cancelled. I was looking to be married at Henderson Beach because it is handicap accessible. Any help would be appreciated!

For right now, I think that Pensacola Beach is getting tar balls and some areas were closed for swimming. However, with Hurricane Alex making landfall there was concern it would push the oil further inland to places like Destin/Fort Walton/Panama City. I don't think that has happened yet.

Seeing that your wedding isn't until 2011, who knows what the water/beach will be like. Hopefully by then the leak will be fixed but you never know the long term impact.

I would either just take your chances and have a backup plan in Destin or cancel it now.

There are some nice locations on the Atlantic side of the state if you are still interested in having it at the beach!

    Good Luck.

if you link to my DJ's facebook page they post pictures of the local beaches and news almost daily.  For now Destin beaches are clean, Pensacola, and Perdido are getting some tarballs.

Wow that's a tough one.  I am so much of a worrier that I would cancel and look elsewhere.  Especially with a wedding date that far out, who knows what the conditions will be like then.

Ha! At least you have more time :) I'm getting married on the beach in Destin on 10-10-10. Oil Slick is our wedding theme *wink* It will be a fun day no matter what and won't be bad at all. Worst case scenario: sand that will be directly in your shots will have to be picked up. No biggie :) And right now it isn't bad, so who knows...

I am currently in Destin about 1.5 miles from Henderson Park and it is beautiful!  There are people on the beach and in the water.  I am local (Panama City) and am a manager at a luxury resort in Santa Rosa Beach and the beaches in our area have been spared for the most part.  Pensacola has gotten the worst of it on the FLorida coastlines.  They have teams at the ready to get out and cleaned up asap!

I am getting married at Grayton Beach on 10.23.10.  Our reception is at Havana Blue (on the bay off 331)...for those of you from the area, this is Bentley's on the Bay's newest venue location; we are also using them as our backup location in the even that the beaches are closed or too oily.  Otherwise, we are full steam ahead to marry on the beach.  April 2011 is a long way away...it could be 100% back to normal by then or even worse.  They are even speculating that the oil could wash around the entire state of Florida if it hits the gulf stream.  Keep posted on the latest info and just do what you want.  If you want a beach wedding in NW FL then have one.  Just think about a back up plan.  Good luck! ;-)
