Beach house wedding ban in Walton County?

I heard -- I forget where -- that there was a  motion to ban weddings that take place at private homes in Walton County. The proposed ban would essentially eliminate renting a beach house in order to have a small, private wedding on the beach. The only option for a beach wedding would be to pay thousands of $ to wedding companies with "exclusive" rights.

Does anyone have any recent info on whether the ban was passed?

Thanks in advance!

You might be able to get more help if you post on the North Florida board.  I had to google Walton County.

Here's the original article, from what I understand a decisions was not made on the 8th. Their is a lot of money behind this as all of the neighbors of these rental properties have big money & don't like the inconvenience of the extra traffic & noise from  weddings etc...  I think this will be a long drawn out battle.  Sorry I don't have more info, but this is the newspaper to watch.

    Thanks, Life is beachy!

I can't help but wonder if some of the bigger resorts are behind this? Some of them are national corporations and beach weddings are big money these days.

Makes planning anything a bit difficult, doesn't it?

PS -- Deston is in Okaloosa county, not Walton. So the ordinance -- if it passes -- will not affect the city of Destin -- only places like Rosemary Beach, Grayton Beach, Sandestin, etc.

It really does make planning difficult in these areas, I hadn't thought about the big hotels makes sense.

The greatest hypocrisy is that the really big wedding companies -- like Rosemary Beach -- REQUIRE a minimum of , yes, THREE BEACH HOUSE RENTALS when you book a wedding there.

    ????

This deosn't jibe with all the rationale that renting a beach house for a wedding is so awful and noisy and "bad for the neighborhood."

Sounds like they are trying to drive out the little guy, the DIY's and those of us trying to have a sane, affordable experience.

The local SoWal boards state that the person behind this proposed ordinance does in fact own a wedding venue and coordinating company. It figures.
